There are a couple of other cards with SDHC support that have been out for a good while.

The R4 is sooooo past it. The young guns came out with SDHC support about 6 months ago (notably cheaper than the original R4 too), and they've taken over the market with better products.

Edge, DSTT, M3DS Real, Acekard 2, Supercard DS One v3, iTouch DS.

I have a M3DS Real with the M3 Sakura english firmware on it, and its the biz.

Max size SD cart for old R4s is 2gb. With SDHC, they go up to 32gb and beyond!

Get off your high horse, speedboatchase. You have no idea what I'm using my card for.

    1gb R4 does me fine!

Have a DSTT with SDHC support so I'm happy enough with that.

Any real advantage with the R4?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,264 ✭✭✭witnessmenow

    Basically, no.

Indeed, many people use their cards for legal purposes.
Mine is filled with Mega Drive games I actually own :)

    Where?

Sorry, sorry - I forgot 100% of R4 users only bought it for "Homebrew" (like Mr.E)

speedboatchase stop trolling or you will get banned. What people do with their R4's is their own business and it might surprise you that people do buy them and only use them for homebrew.

In no way am I trolling, I contribute to tons of different boards on this site on a regular basis. I'm a big games fan and lifelong Nintendo fan and I'm genuinely bemused as to why R4 topics are allowed, as they aren't on tons of reputable message board sites such as this for the simple reason of piracy. I don't see people passing around links for Torrents of just-released movies on the film board and since a bittorrent is a perfectly legal method of transferring data that just happened to be used illegally by tons of people, I can't see the distinction. Maybe a homebrew games board would be more suitable but whichever, I'd just like to see the Nintendo board cleared up to allow for games discussion

I have a bootload card (not an R4) and I haven't loaded a single pirate game on it. I've used it solely for homebrew (other peoples' and my own development). A Nintendo DS (and Wii for that matter) can be used for much more than games, so I don't see a reason to restrict the forum to games discussion only.

That's because that would be illegal, and reason for banning. As would posting links to DS roms on this forum be.

How long does it take for the DSTT Multimedia Card for NDS to arrive from deal extreme? It's been a few weeks now, and I'm mad to try out some home brew ;)

Im in the same situation. The status of my order has been "waiting for supplier" for over a week now. Can't wait to get it. Are there any homwbrew apps people really recommend?

Seems that I need to get a micro sd card aswell. Can't they just tell you that in the first place? I had a flash GBA card and it didn't need anything else. That's annoying, really it is. So where can I get one easy enough without having to order online and wait for another month?

http://www.shop4memory.com - order today you'll have it tomorrow (they're based in Ireland and have very competitive prices)

    Hi guys,

In the past I have gotten two R4 cards from gameyeehar and volumerate and 1 gig MicroSD cards.

I need to get two more but I'm confused by all the new options. Can someone recommend what I should get, and from where? or will I stick with R4 cards?

    Cheers.
    Q?
