Comodo pro, do I need a second anti-virus?

I used to run my computer with avg anti virus and comodo firewall, the latest comodo seems to have an anti-virus built in.

Can I use comodo pro without avg, or should I try to disable or just not use comodo's anti virus and use avg instead, with comodo as a firewall only?

I've read the "read this or be banned" and as far as I can tell this is a legit question, is there a need for avg or is it superfluous now?

    Thanks.

Comodo Defense+ is more of a Host Intrusion Prevention System, although yes it can scan your storage for existing malware it's real strength is in zero day prevention. I'd say yes run it alongside AVG.
Another good free HIPS is Threatfire, and it's less intrusive if Defense+ prompts are too much for you.

If you are running Comodo PRO (emphasis on the "PRO", i.e. the paid version) you actually do get a proper antivirus included as well as Defence+ as a HIPS. Therefore running it alongside AVG will cause conflicts. You must not run the both of them together. I'd recommend disabling Comodo's antivirus capabilities and keeping AVG.

"Plus" is the paid version, PRO is the standard even on the free edition. Plus adds their support services and a guarantee to diagnose and clean your PC if something goes wrong, the software and defense levels on the Free and Paid editions are the same. It's AV scan is purely an on-demand scanner so it will not interfere with AVG in the respect, it relies on the Defense+ HIPS module for active protection so you might still run into performance issues simply because you have 2 watchdogs but they work in different ways.
