Anyone know how noisy these are?

Would be interested in maybe getting one as my main PC and sticking a decent graphics card in it - I presume the 16x PCIe slot actually runs at 16x speed?

i think when this appeared before on bargain alerts a few people did say it was a bit noisy, if you do a search you might be able to find the original thread. A pity elara don't let you collect on a saturday, otherwise would probably get one of these

They are pretty noisy, had to exchange the cpu cooling fan and rear fan before mine sounded quieter than my xbox.

Also there is no sound card and the psu does not have pci express connectors for graphics.

What OS is shipped with that, if any?

I sorted the noise problems by replacing the CPU fan and rear fan with ones from this range http://www.arctic-cooling.com/fans1.php (can't remember the exact ones). PSU is still a bit loud but the noise situation is a lot better than it was out of the box.

Something else to bear in mind, is if you're getting a silent GFX solution for this you need to make sure that it doesn't have heatpipes on the back, as the cpu cooler on this server is at an angle and very close to the pci-express slot so a card with bulky heatpipes or construction at the back won't fit very well

Thanks for advice, I think I'll avoid that one.

I'm also rather surprised that Catalyst has been allowed to start several threads in BA given that he/she/it represents Elara? I thought such things were frowned upon on boards?

I got one of these and there not as loud as everyone says they make a mighty roar on start up but quiet down after 10 seconds or so.

just a warning for anyone getting one though they need EEC ram i found out the hard way:confused:

they can take regular non EEC or EEC, just not a mixture of both (have 2 gigs of regular ddr2 in mine at the moment)
