Am going to play the sunday millions this sunday for the first time. Have been thinking of playing it for a long time now....so decided why not.

anyone here ever done well in these? Do they get crapshooty early on?

I wouldnt goas far as saying it gets crapshooty early on, buy your right in thinking it gets crapshooty pretty quickley. After 1 hour, you come back from the break at 200-400 blinds, so if you got off to a slow start and say you down to 8k, you've only 20 bb's. So unless you double through, it gets crapshooty before the 2nd hour is up(and thats when the antes kick in)

    GL in it anyway.

It's the heaviest satellited tournament online, a sizeable proportion of the 6000+ field get in from $3rebuys or $10 double shootouts,so the average skill level of field is ....well...average! Usually you'll have 1 or 2 good players per table.

Structure plays fine with a good start and difficult with a bad start but you can apply those sentiments to most mtt's. I'd say most half decent players will be +ev in it - the obvious problem is most people wont ever play a large enough sample to find their true expectation in it, due to the size of the buy-in and it's weekly nature. Give it a spin, no reason to approach it differently than any other game.

Its like any large entry MTT. Play tight and run good and you'll make the money.

the main thing is, it being your first time, don't let yourself be intimidated by the buy in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,613 ✭✭✭mormank

the buy in shouldnt be intimitading at aall...its only about 140 bucks these days..the only thing would be certain jumps in the money once close to the final table i would imagine..the buy in shouldnt be a crutch at all!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,393 ✭✭✭elshambo

    Play tight as said above,
if you get AA or KK early play them hard some mug will call

get PLENTY of sleep,my first time I finished bout 13th
Hadnt slept proper for about 2 days before (insominia)
about 6:15 in morn(Ish?) made a bad call and was out, call was totally due to lack of sleep
Annoying thing was i was totally bossing the table for about 30 mins before, me going out got a mix of gg and thank god :)

now its only 140 quid its less "ooh its a lot of money" for the first 30 mins you will get some people make massive raises as not sure what to do with big chip stacks, ignore or over top (they will call)

Cheers guys. will take all the above on board. Not put off by the buy in at all, I just don't want it to effect my decision making early on if a big hand comes up.

    regards
    Carlo

    Good luck in it

One other thing not yet mentioned. The players tend to raise pre-flop comparitively big in the early stages (at level I 25/50 its not uncommon to see the pot opened for over 200) and you see an unusual amount of calls of those raises.

If you do get AA KK early on, don't be afraid of raising big and playing hard on dry flops as there is a good chance you will be paid.

Spurred on by your post i played the million, meaning i had to go back on the stars site for the first time in about a year

out of the 100 grand when my pockets get beaten by a5 unsuited making a flush on river

less than 5 mins later out of the million when my AQ squeeze from BB all in is called by KJ unsuited (for most of his chips) K on turn

just once id like to go out of a big tourni with the worst hand, just to see what its like :)

That site breaks my b*lls and u owe me buddy;)

lol. 700 left. still in there. 74k with 2500/5000 ante 500. crazy fast but trying to nick blinds once a round and its working so far :)
Just got moved from an ATM table so bit disappointed with that.

cheers dude. yeah bit of a mad call by your man with A 5. he knew i did'nt play a hand in an hour and decides to insta call.

am getting rotten cards apart from the QQ in the past 2 hours though.

just trying to squeeze as much out of it as I can without getting run over.

Sometimes in a tourni like that getting no cards around about this time aint a bad thing, stops ya getting involved ;)

Yeah it was almost 4am when i exited. I'd say it would have been another 2+ hours for final table to be reached....only a guess. But yes i agree that if you final tabled it you would'nt be at work next morning...unless there was something wrong with you

Just saw on Poker News that it was 9.5 hrs before the Final Table was reached
You really would need to be well rested and/or have a good bit of Red Bull or something, to keep the concentration up.

You'd want Monday off work, for sure!
