OK, so the President with the sub-chimpanzee intelligence has done it again.

'Wall Street got drunk' says Bush

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7522335.stm

Fiddling while Rome burns at a special off the record session for his Wall Street chums, while simultaneously laying bare his painful lack of understanding and crass insensitivity (housing crisis jokes = hilarious).

Although granted, addiction and long term substance abuse might have some aptness as an allegory for the current financial mess in the US; I doubt George’s thinking stretches beyond too many beers at a frat party, which is not quite the same thing.

Anyway, he’s a dope; we all know that. My question, is there anything you actually admire him for? (Try, pretty please not to be too sarcastic!).

I can think of one thing (and it is one thing only). He has a black female as the third most powerful person in his government. So for all his ignorance on almost everything else, at least he’s not racist...

But that’s it, there’s nothing else....

I wouldnt admire him for hiring Condi Rice, shes **** at her job no matter what gender or race she may be.

Slight admiration for getting to where he is being what he is. Economical use of intelligence to say the least.

Well he managed to convince people he was worth electing, thats something. And obama stole bush's 'economic magic wand' answer,so he must admire bush a little too?

Fair effin' play to whoever took that video.
    They caught it very well.

My favourite Bush gaffe was when he ribbed on a journo for wearing sunglasses. Obviously not realising that the man was blind.

    This is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifwBRRg1s5w
It doesn't look bad at all, unless you bear in mind that Peter is blind.

I admire him for how he is able to embarrassssss (sp close enough:pac:) himself week after week and still call himself a world leader.

Never heard of anyone that stupid with that much power in history. Needless to say I'll miss him and his wacky ways!

That's not fair on Maire-Antoinette (who never said that anyway) and who i'd say deep down, was a fair bit more self-aware .....

Admiration is not the word I would use. I prefer loathing.

But to answer your question: http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=177351&title=congressional-hearings

cant say it any better than that. John Oliver is spot on.
We're in a Golden Age of obstructed politics and we don't even know it.

Listening to Bush's speech's compared to JFK's (check out you tube ) is like listening to the kid who left school with just about basic reading ,writing skills .The latter (for all his faults ) was witty, charming, inteligent and actually knew what he was talking about .He probably also prevented WW3. If Bush jnr had being in the same position in the white house in 1962, i most likely wouldent be typing this now .

that thing with the geneva convention, or whatever it was, where they were like that iraq war is illegal and some of the crimes committed are punishable by the death penalty, and he got the court to say somethin like yeah we broke the law but we've decided we're not goin to punished....
i really should've looked into that a bit more before i started this post but meh, what are ye gonna do...
anyway thats something to admire...i guess...

His political standpoints and policies are arguable. Some like them, some don't. Some only like some of them.

One thing which I will say for him though is that at least he seems to stand his ground. It's rare to find a politician in the US who doesn't flip-flop around a bit in the search for approval and votes. Our next President, be it Obama or McCain will be one who does, judging by recent campaigning. Bush comes up with a vision (or delusion, depending on your point of view), tells everyone what it is, and then sticks with it. At least you know where he stands, something which you can't say for many political leaders.

    NTM

Achieving and hanging on to power despite everything.

Triumph of the Lowest Common Denominator, tbh.

Manic, while I hear what you are saying re: politicians flip-flopping, stubbornness when you're wrong is hardly admirable.

I think he can be quite witty at times actually...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,778 ✭✭✭tallaght01

I think he's a very witty guy. He's made some pretty funny quips in his time.

I think he's pretty intelligent (doesn't he have an MBA from Harvard or something?).

As a rageing, leftie hippy I don't agree with much of what he says. BUt he can give quite inspiring speeches.

The main issue, and the reason why he's often a hate figure for many, is that he doesn't give a flying **** what the likes of me or any of you think of him.

I'm kinda embarrassed to admit it, but I kind of admire that trait in him.

    Joking?

I have no idea if he is racist, I wouldn't infer it from that.

Bottom 10% though so not exactly a stellar pupil. I believe there was some study done to estimate his IQ and it didn't come up all that high (relative to other US presidents anyway).

His best ability is to have a sort of Bertie "man of the people" appeal. He's someone I believe would be quite easy to talk, regardless of the fact that you might disagree with his opinions. He seems quite approachable on a personnal level and I ge the impression he's quite friendly in a "folksy" way.

    A) is that really true. I've never heard it from a reliable source. Just the usual haters :P

    B) You're still gonna be bright if you get an MBA from an Iveagh league uni. I mean the bottom 10% of my medical school class still contained some crazy brainy mudd fukkas :P

oh look, there's great orators around the world who have speech writers. But it's all about the delivery. Look at Obama. Presumably he has speech writers, but I still love watching him in action.

Easy. A presidential election is simply a face-off between two people. They don't have to be the two best people in the country, only the two people presented. If the opposition is daft enough to put an even worse/more unpopular candidate up, then it's still possible to win.

    NTM

I admire the way he put the shíts up the American people and convinced them that there was a terrorist on every corner, waiting to blow them up.

I also admire the way he got the British to back him, even though they have had recent experience with actual terrorism and know that the best way to deal with it is to sit down with the political side of terrorist groups and knock out a deal.

I admire how he turned people against the French, Germans and Russians because those countries in his faux war.

I admire how he did all of this just so that he could get his grubby hands on Middle East oil, all the while ignoring how women are treated in Saudi Arabia, a country that sells oil to the US, all the while telling us that Iran are the bad ones. The main reason behind all of this is that Iraq, Russia and Iran want to deal in Euros in the sale of oil.

I admire how he turns a blind eye to atrocities carried out by Israel, who are the country most likely to nuke one of their neighbours.

Such a wishy-washy hate campaign against Bush for years now, that I think is actually damaging to those of us opposed to imperialism/war/terrorism (both state and religious)

Bush is just one moron in an administration full of them, I actually imagine he has very little influence (OMG hez the president!) with regards to military decisions and the like.

People pointing the figure at America as some kind of imperialist badman should remember that many of the other states involved in the 'war on terror' (drop bombs on people to stop them bombing you... ) like Britain and France, have far worse records when it comes to conquering the world/steling natural resources etc.

The man is an idiot. That's perfectly clear. We're not short of idiot politicians ourselves, and I truthfully believe we'd top that chart anyday.

More than I hate Western 'leaders' and warmongers, I dispise religious fascists and totalitarian states like North Korea and the like. So while it's important we oppose wars waged by Israel, the United States, the United Kingdom and so on- and human rights violations by countries like Russia and even 'democracies' like Spain- it's important we are as vocally critical of places like North Korea and China, and also the religious-right in the Middle East. The less popular causes maybe, but just as important.

America is also the homeland of Mark Twain, Woody Guthrie, Martin Luthar King and so many others. Their people are no dumber than ours (We've been electing Fianna Fail/Fine Gael on/off for how long?) or evil than any others (Few dodgey characters have been elected in the UK too, with enough blood on their hands)

Basically it's important we oppose all murderers, if they live in caves, 'peoples palaces', government buildings or anywhere else. so Bush? An asshole- but he'll never top the pile (no matter how hard he tries)
