Which AEG?

    Hi Folks,

    I'm currently skirmishing with a Dboys M4A1.

I'm considering upgrading and I'm looking at a couple of possible options so I thought I'd see what you fine folk would recommend (I'm looking at something different than the M4). I'm currently looking at the following:

    1. Classic Army CA8-2
    2. Tokyo Marui Steyr AUG A2, Civilian/police
    3. Tokyo Marui FAMAS 5.56F
    4. Classic Army SAR Taktik II
    5. Classic Army G36

Basically the things I'm looking for are accuracy and range. So what would you suggest?

I'd also like the option to make modifications, add scopes etc.

I was pretty settled with the Classic Army range but I've heard rumours that their quality control has been slipping and that they tend to be error prone of late which is why I'm looking at other options.

If you know of any models that I might have left out and which fit the elements I mentioned, let me know.

Another option is to buy some bits for my M4A1 and do it up, although I haven't found the range that great on it. What do you think?

You could replace the hop-up in the m4 to increase range, or have it tuned up closer to 1 joule, assuming the lack of range is a lack of power.

Most aegs will get a similar range, we all have the same power limit here on our aegs, a better hop or just a better asjusted hop would increase your range.

Maybe get a tightbore barrel to increase accuracy too.

The m4 is one of the most customisable aegs around, if you want that.

If you want a new aeg get one, but you don't need one to achieve the effect you describe, range, the m4 can be improved to achieve that.

But saying that, its always nice to get a new gun anyway :)

One thing to note, the ca8-2 optics are a pain in the hole to use, the rest I cant comment on.

Any CA gear manufactured in the last year or so has turned out to be woeful. Unless you're willing to refit the internals as well, I'd say look at another brand.
The TM FA-MAS has one major problem (apart from being ugly), the body squeaks like all hell. It's just a design issue TM never seem to have gotten around to fixing. Otherwise it's a grand little rifle.

The TM Steyr would easily be the best of that bunch overall. However, for half the money you could get the JG Steyr which is reported as performing just as well as the TM version, and outclasses the CA version.
If you truly did want one from that list only though, TM Steyr all the way.

If you wanted a G36, JG, TM or Star would do the best ones.

For accuracy and range, if you don't mind a bit of extra length, the TM M14 couldn't be rated any higher. AGM do a cheaper clone which is decent. CA do one which is a bit naff too, I think it's a rebrand of a G&P (could be wrong there, it's a rebrand of something though). The TM one is the king of the M14's though. They're available in the long "Match" type, as well as the shorter "SOCOM" type. The shorter one, incidentally is just as accurate and far-reaching as it's bigger brother.

These "which AEG" threads are geting kinda frequent....and anoying.

Not being a negative nellie but AEG's from the same price range generally preform as well as other AEG's from the same range. Theres hundreds of reviews online too that will tell you all the info you need to know.

And more importantly: An AEG is a personal choice. Everyone is biased towards a certain gun, the one they regard "The Best".

    Just follow your heart /cheesyness

Still its always good to talk to people who've seen / used these ;)

TM M14 looks good, any ideas how a scope might be fitted to this?

Why not keep your Dboys M4 and use a FTK to upgrade it.Get a tightbore barell and a new motor and your set, plus it will all cost less than a new CA aeg.

I bought it second hand as a startup.

Theres no point spending large amounts of money on equipments for a sport you've never done before until you're sure you're going to keep it up :D
