It is making a sound its never made before, it sounds a bit like when the computer is working on something(opening a big program) and its making weird faded lines on the monitor

Any idea what the problem is?

When this happened i had left the PC on over night.

I am using the PC now and its been running since 2pm so 5ish hours and theres no problems at the moment(monitor/screen is grand)(no unusual sounds coming from the PC itself)

I have two 320gb harddrives, if one is failing and i haven't got enough space to copy everything onto the second harddrive, what other options do i have? Burn everything to DVD?
I am asking this ^ because someone on a diff forum said it was probably one of my harddrives failing :o

    Thanks

No, it sounds damn weird though... think you'll have to do a bit more troubleshooting on it.

An external USB or Firewire harddrive... you can pick one up for around 100 euro.

First off, make sure everythign is plugged in correctly, internally and externally. Secondly, go to your hard drive manafuctures site and pick up their hard drive diagnostic tool. And run a full scan on both.

Have you tried running check disk? It's not great but it should tell you if you have problems or not. Basically run chkdsk /r from a command prompt on both your drives (you'll have to restart)

Check the MS page for more info: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265

A log file is kept in the event viewer under Winlogon
