So I was working away in a recruitment agency for the last 2 weeks, left a job after 3/4 years that basically just wasnt working out for me, the recruitment agency basically offered me the sun and the moon and whatever else you wanted. Little did I know what I was getting myself into i started the job. All was well, so I thought, until today when out of the blue, I was called in and basically told that I better leave then get fired. So I left .... now i have a few job opportunites at present but nothing basically that says u are hired.....though i just want to ask why on earth have i been so mislead. i have been told not to take this job but i needed it as i was leaving my permanent job and wanted to do something until i found something close to home and the agency was an excellent opportunity....and i just couldnt stay in my old job anymore.....i dont even know what to do anymore.

Yeah but after I started the job they tell me how bad it actually is and how mean the actual MD is, i was taken aback by the way i was treated all i was able to do was walk out wit a smile on my face and think OMG what have i just done....i am dealing with a company now and they said i am their number one candidate and had the last interview yday but they havent gotten back to me to say i am sending you the contract now, so i wouldnt be so worried if i had a proper offer but i dont...i am actually without a job, and i left my permanent job over a stupid agency job, i cant believe what i have done. its killing me!

I left but before i did i told them well i was gone walk out anyway because the environment its very very unprofessional!

My dad said that I should go and get unemployment but i know that it takes about 6 weeks to get that and in the mean time i might have a job and I dont want to cause a lot of paper work for the welfare office.

I am lost cant believe that I have been left without a job!

I'd suggest you sign on in case you don't get a job as soon as you think. It's hard going out there at the moment. It's a pain in the ass but just cover yourself.

    Good luck!

Honestly I just want to scream and just tell the girl who hired me that next time she should not promise people anything....oh if you would have seen how nicely she was talking about the place and that I would be an excellent match even though i never done recruitment may i say, i am doing a HR degree but thats it, and i wanted to get into HR silly me obviously I was doing it the wrong way. I am so upset its not even funny.

I will go and register God I am so ashmed u have no idea, i have never been on welfare. NEVER.

Cant believe I have made such a bad move!!!

That bites, OP. First of all, I'm pretty sure that if they've let you go you can claim Unemployment Assistance straightaway. There's not a lot you can do about the agency's behaviour, other than look for a new job. The phrase "A verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's written on" has never been more true than it is these days.

Agencies can do this, they're salespeople. Their work invloves making the company seem as attractive to you as possible and vice versa. They can easily lie to either of one and if they're ever called on it their usual response is simply "Oh, I must have made a mistake." Not to be too harsh, they have a job to do and most people exaggerate in thier jobs.

Last year I got a job through an agency. On the Friday I was called into the office and told "We're going to get someone from a different branch in, you're not needed anymore." So that worked out as 5 hours notice! I was incredibly lucky and went for an interview with a company on Monday, started with them on Tuesday. Hopefully something similiar will happen for you.

well they said its either you go now or u will get fired so I walked out, does that count as being let go? Ive a mortgage and a car and a loan and God knows when i will get something.

I've gone on the dole for the first time. And I felt exactly the same! But you've worked and paid tax for times like this when you may need social welfare. Don't worry about it. Just keep a positive outlook!

true, how much is the welfare I dont even have a clue how much it is? I am hoping to get something soon, as I need it, I am meeting with agencies tomorrow, I know agencies but they are not that bad especially when u are in my situation, an agency got me the previous job where i was for a very long time.

i am actually scared at this stage, I am as worried as hell at this stage..but i hope to get something soon.

    Fingers crossed

I dont even know where to apply and how to apply havent got a clue what to do!
I have to say that I have never been so dissapointed in a recruitment agency as I have been with this one, should have seen it coming last week.....

Got it wrong, thought you were in recruitment for 4 years.

No sorry only started 2 weeks ago but they knew i had no experience and needed to be trained in and they were aware of that....so this is just not making sense, i was keeping my head down, was in early let at 5.45 as per the contract and i would start at 8 i mean i did everything i could to prove i wanted this considering the fact that there was nothing much to do really, a lot of cold calling which was insane ppl didnt even take my calls

Because you were there for such a short time maybe you dont get the standard employment rights. But if you did you were probably told to leave before being fired as you could make a claim against them.

Sorry if I sound harsh, but employers don't say "leave now or we will fire you" unless you're either extremely incompetent or you did something very unprofessional.

What exactly happened which made them want to fire you?

PS Sorry to hear you're unemployed. It sucks, I know.

well i saw there was nothing to do really no people to fill the jobs we had now i was making calls but at one stage i think i stopped for about 40 mins looking for people and they said i didnt do anything for those 40 mins and that i have until friday to show i want to work there or i can walk, and she said between the two of us as i really like u, i suggest u just leave as he will fire u.

    Ah right, this makes sense....

There are jobs, but no resources to fill the positions???? With the market i would have expected vice versa, these days i noticed that management are quick with temper. IMO you should have waited to get fired!

I'm not sure what your situation is. Whether your employer has you down as "fired" or "resigned." If I were you I'd chance it. Tell the Social Welfare that you were fired. If they come back to you and say "Your employer says you left" then explain to them what really happened.

I know it may seem like a big, cold, heartless state body but you will be dealing with a human person when submitting your claim. It won't hurt to be really nice and friendly with them. Show them a lot of respect, take full responsibility for any mistakes or errors with your application. Even if it's not your fault, they'll be more likely to do a little bit more if you're nice to them or if they feel like they have a connection with you somehow.

I remember after I lost my passport. I went to the Social Welfare to ask them for a copy (they had taken a photocopy of my passport when I applied) Even though this was months later and I was off Unemployment by that point I was really deferential to the guy and he bobbed his head a bit and then said "oh okay" and made a copy for me.

And don't feel ashamed. Anyone can go through a bit of a bad time. The most important thing is getting through it and getting back on your feet. So take all the help you can get, you won't be using it for long.

    Bad advice.
Think of future interviews. Always better to say, "It didn't work out, so i called it a day" rather than "Oh that, yeah they fired me"...

Anna, dont worry or be ashamed of signing on. I've given out about welfare on these boards too many times, i completely changed my views this year when i had to do it myself.

I know it's a cliché, but you learn from your mistakes. Hopefully in the future you'll see Recruitment Agencies for what the really are; Money mad.
Good luck with the job hunt.
She does not have to tell future employers her reason for leaving

Right I was that person too... I lasted three months left a good well paid job. In theory I should have been a super consultant had spent ten years in sale s with an unbeaten record won incentives awards etc.

Well i was crap. It's a tough insdustry and you are not alone. Sign up to temp with one of the agencies.
PM me if you need advice. I'm in a job now I love, I left the recruitment game before i was given the boot.

    Chin up x

maybe it was just that particular agency that didn't work out? there are tonnes of recruitment jobs out there. one thing i know from friends in the industry though is that its not really route into HR as its more a sales job. you could try and get some contract or maternity cover work in HR just to give you some experience.

thanks for the advice, i am having one interview tomorrow, and i was interviewing with another company and they said i am their number 1 candidate but its taking ages for the to check everything and i dont want to push them 2 much, they are based in Canada so thats why its taking so long and they seem nice.
but regarding recruitment never ever ever thought i was going to be in a position like this...what was i thinking...i should be ok for the next 2 months money wise but i dont know after that.
i hope to get something by the end of august.
i hope i get the job tomorrow its only a contract but it should get me though to Xmas .
If i dont get the job well then welfare office here i come!
I will just tell them the truth about what happened, left a perm job for a rec company who basically told me either walk out or u will be fired, so i walked out. my friend reba said the same thing that i should have stayed until i was fired, but i was so embarassed when i was called in, i just wanted the earth to swallow me!
