    Ha, very good forbairt!

I think it's a good idea. The Leeds lad was correct when he said soldiers may up it to kill as they feel, but either way if they didn't have these variable bullets - they'd be using real bullets which would kill anyway.

I wonder will the toy company decide on the styling too?

The bullets aren't variable, the velocity is.

This seems largely pointless to me. They say they will use different rounds for non-lethal and lethal scenarios, but they already do that. So it's not like they can decide to go in with "phasers set to stun" and then decide they want to do some killin, they've got rubber bullets in their guns...

If "terrorists" got their hands on these guns I wonder what setting they'd use?

The gun will be set to explode if a non judge fires the gun of course :)

(way too much time spent reading judge dread in my youth)

Nice feature. They think of everything these days.

the same setting that is available on all the guns they use right now.

My issue would be someone forgetting to switch the velocity or setting the wrong velocity in a crowd control scenario; and we'd end up with something similar to what happened in France a few weeks back.

But how?? They said they would still be using rubber rounds for crowd control etc., so presumably regular bullets for lethal operations. So Im' going to assume, lower velocity or not, that regular bullets will still penetrate the human body. Ergo, what's the point?

Well, I would assume you are assuming incorrectly, or indeed there would be no point.

Lund says that the new weapon system will use different types of bullet for lethal and non-lethal use.

    Knew I wasn't going crazy...

This was already developed by the Topper Corporation in a very effective toy gun back in the 1960ies called the "Johnny 7 Gun" It could shoot seven different arniments including grenades, rockets and conventional bullets. I had two of them :)
