I'm staying in Vancouver for the summer, and was looking at heading to Playa del Carmen for a week in September. I'm a Canadian/Irish dual citizen, but my friend is just Irish. I was wondering if there were visa requirements, and also if there would be issues regarding machine readable (or not readable in this case) passports.

    Thanks.

Hi obl,we travel to cancun twice a year on average and there is no problems with new or old type passport. The airline you are flying with will have visa forms on board for passengers entering Mexico. We generally fly scheduled and cost of tourist tax and departure tax is included in ticket price.
However we have flown by charter once or twice and have had to pay departure tax of 50-80usd.
There is no visa charge as such for Irish citizens just the tourist tax.
    Enjoy Mexico!!!

Yeah, there are no problems with Irish Passports. Just fill out the form and hand it to the immigration officer when you arrive...

Cool. Thanks. Just wanted to make sure we didn't have to apply before we left or anything...
