where would you go and for how long?

Would you go on a Cruise? Would you go on a party holiday to the likes of Ibiza? or would you prefer to get a cheap trip to Thailand? How about a ski trip or shopping in the States? Would you spend a bit more and try safari in Africa?

...or do you have some great holiday ideas to share with a budget of 1k???

Looking to try and find out what you folks would do and I'm also trying to come up with a few ideas for myself!

Obviously a link to any ideas/websites (or places that you might have been to) that might house some great bargains would be fantastic!

I'd buy an interrail ticket and go mad :) I've seen a lot of the bigger cities in Europe, so I'd go for the small scale side of it, tiny towns up in the Alps, have coffee by lakes in Italy, go swimming off a tiny island in Greece, go above the Artic Circle in Norway... Places most people wouldn't visit, but are none the less worth it. The kind of places that get a paragraph and a beautiful photo in 'Lonely Planet Guide to Europe' but nothing more.

Though the idea of a holiday of a lifetime would be tempting too, Grand Canyon and the Rockies come to mind, or the Orient Express or something!

Hmm.. What would I do if I had €1000 for free? I'd probably invest it, but if I really had to go on holidays, I would go on Europe's best theme parks trip!! Yaayy.. :)

    New York!
Although €1000 isn't going to get you too far after you've paid for flights and accommodation

    interrail all the way!!

I am going interrailing in two weeks time for 24days. I have a budget of 1200 euro, im hoping i can do it with 1100. And thats euro!
Im heading from south of France, to Rome, to lake Garda, to lake bled, Budapest, to high Tatra mountains, going rafting in Slovakia too and finish on the beach in Sopot (Baltic sea) Poland. Getting great bang for my buck and I am camping pretty much all of it, bar one or two cities where iv booked a hostel.

Not going to have anything overly extravagant for a grand, I'd put it towards something involving snow and mountains though.

went to corfu in greece last yr was ok but not spectacular. One place I would recommend is armacao de pera or albuifeira in the algarve went there this year and was unbelievable. A lot of excursions as well like the rock of gibraltor if your intested in that type of thing.

Anyone been to prague thinking of going there in january?

someone posted that u cant do much with a grand, well for 1400 euros I got to go interrailing, stay in nice places and see france, italy, slovenia, croatia, slovenia, hungary, austria, czech rep and poland.
I got to all the best sites, went to themeparks, aqua parks, zoos etc!
it was a trip of a lifetime and it didn't cost a bomb - if i had more money i cuda gone for longer than a month, but at 325 euro per week, i think i did well!!!!

That's a good thing. They'll only hold you back man.

For a grand (well more like €1500 I had to get an advance while I was out there) I visited Sweden, Latvia and Lithuania, two weeks in total. That included everything from flights to drink.

Vilnius in Lithuania was nice, very relaxed, very cheap and great nightlife.
