Help with CD Drive

    I downloaded windows media player 11 onto my laptop but now it has made my cd drive not work, i know this is the problem because i downloaded it onto another laptop and found the same problem happened so i put that laptop back to the restore point bt unfortunely mine has gone passed it .

    so does anyone know where i can download windows media player 9 to fix it ?? on the microsoft wensite they say its no longer avalible.

    please please help, i am stuck without a cd drive :( and it is not a drive problem it is a software problem.

    Where did you download WMP11 from ? It should have come as a windows update ( i think!) .

    It sounds in any case like a corrupt installer if WMP11 is to blame - even from a reliable source (i.e. micro$oft.com) there could have been a blip during download/save to temp folder/write to save destination so I'd uninstal and redownload .

    What exactly is the problem with the CD drive ? Does the computer recognise it at all ? Does it power on ? Read data discs ? Recognise CDs but not play them ? More info would help , especially if there are any error messages .

    I might have an old WMP9 installer here somewhere but in the meantime does uninstalling WMP11 fix the problem ? Depending on what you say about the CD drive system restore may also be a solution .
