Poster prints online?

I have some holiday photos of various things I'd like to get some large printouts of (A3 or A2 maybe?). I'd like to upload the photos and buy them online and have them delivered (like I've done with "regular" sized photos before).

Can anyone recommend someone who's pretty good for this? The quality doesn't have to be fantastic, not looking to spend tons.

I've read the stickys and no mention and this does seem like the best forum to ask in.

    Thanks

+ edit - I did find this thread but would appreciate any further thoughts. Thanks very much.

    Oh - i have a good solution;

    snapfish.ie

    Poster prints

    Posters Price (each)
    12x8 €0.89
    18x12 €1.99
    24x16 €6.99
    30x20 €9.99

Only do gloss finish though so i hope your preference is not for matt / lustre.

Quality/Cost ration is bloddy good - spot on really. Snapfish are owned by HP.

    HTH.

I don't want anything fancy! Something like the quality you get when you buy cheap posters in Easons or off one of those guys on the street .. just wanna blow up a couple of holiday photos and put them up as posters.

Will take a look at snapfish, prices sound reasonable enough .. assuming they're inches.

    Yep - dimensions in inches.

LOL - I just looked at my post, i must have been typing too fast for the brain last night

"Quality/Cost ration is bloddy good - spot on really." should have read "Quality/Cost ratio is bloody good - spot on really" :D

I've gone and ordered a couple free prints off Snapfish and a poster size one, just to see what they are like. They look like what I need once these arrive promptly and are half decent :)

What would be the recommended megapixel amount for a A2 printout?

When you're picking a size on the website they give you a recommended size. So upload one and they will give you their opinion.

    I can get a 30x24 from an 8 mp
the site seems to think its ok anyway

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,080 ✭✭✭✭Random

The size I chose was recommended for a 3.2MP k800i photo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,757 ✭✭✭Deliverance XXV

I had a look at another site which recommends 4MP for a 30X20 print so 8MP should be more than enough :)

but afaik it will varie from printing service to printing service as im sure diffeent printers handle large prints differently

Poster turned out great imo. I'm not into any professional job or anything overly fancy but very happy with how it turned out.

Not as happy with the free prints I got, but only got them because they were free :)

18x12's turned out great for me. I mean for €1.99 you can't go far wrong anyway but these were of a quality that you would happily put on show. I had used them before for the 30x20 with a 6mp image and while up close you could see that the source didn't have the pixels to fill the image, it was fine for normal viewing / hardly noticeable. I suspect if you have 8 or more megapixels that you'd be fine. The quality which i had gotten previously for the 30x20 was excellent too and price is soooooo good. Thumbs ups here :)

What kind of paper do they use for the poster size prints?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,259 ✭✭✭Shiny

I find it interesting that they also have unlimited storage for
    all your photographs. ;)

    That's what I'm thinking too.

Very cheap. Might as well avail of the free small prints too.

Don't have it to hand at the moment for the specifics but I know it was Kodak brand - a good heavy stock and their colour rendition was really very good.

I haven't tried the 6x4's yet so i've no recommendation in that regard.

Cheers cat, sounds like good value if thats the case, i thought they might just be using lightweight poster paper like what I had stuck up on my bedroom walls years ago ;) will have to check it out.

I got a load of 8x12's printed out last week with mypix.ie, waiting on getting them back to chec out the quality. Price for an 8x12 was good, about €0.60 each if you buy a pre-piad printing bundle.

    of this shot

Just checked and "Kodak Royal" is the specifics of the paper.

No probs Balfey, I thought they might be waiting at home for me today but no luck, should have them tomorrow, ordered them last tuesday so turnaround time doesn't seem to be the best =(

RickyT, thanks for bringing this back up ;-) I am gonna try some prints nd see how they look. are the poster prints matt or gloss paper, or do you get to specify which that you want?

I got my prints back from mypix.ie, 8x12 glossy, they look nice but a lot of them have a line thru them like a scratch on the roller of the machine - not happy, will be complaining. also they use UPS to deliverwhich is a pain in the arse. Took something like nine business days to get my prints. If snapfish is good then i think i will stick with them in future.

Got my 30x20 today and it's really impressive. Not bad for the price.

I just got my deliveries today too from Snapfish. I do recommend them and I will be using them again. I used the 20 free prints on various photos with the option of the plain white border which looks very classy.
The 30x20 poster print I ordered turned out very well and I'm thinking very strongly of framing and giving it to the parents.

Is the poster glossy or can you choose a matt finish?

The poster is glossy. I can't remember seeing a matt finish option.
