Ive been asked to take a few pics at a christening this saturday.Just looking for some tips on any particular settings inside a church.Never been to the church,so might get in early to see what the lighting is like inside. Anything else i should look out for? Anyone here shoot one before?

I took some shots at my nephew's Christening.
Make sure that you don't disrupt the ceremony.
Try to get of the water on the head bit, but the rest are just family group shots.

    Parents with baby.
    Grandparents with baby.
    God Parents with baby.

All of these can be taken anywhere, so look for the best light.
My advice would be to start with the biggest group, including everyone they want in the shot. Then whittle them right down to just the parents, by gradually removing people.

    Most are multiply christenings !
if it is then watch the ones who go before for the timing..
You will need to get in tight to get the water, and just watch wath position the priest holds the baby.. you dont want to miss it..

Maybe an idea to approach the priest first..

Last one I did I used a 50mm f1.4 for the whole thing.

    I did one a few weeks ago, with just a 50mm 1.8

As posted, make sure ye get the "water on the head" aka drown the bleedin baby part

Take a few tests shots before the actual water bit cos church lightin can be wonky sometimes, and jus use burst and ye should be grand

Its not really a strange thing anymore. I thought I'd be mad intrusive but most priests will tell ye when to come up to take pics, and others will be snappin away with their P&S'

    good luck! :)

Shoot in RAW too or RAW and LJPEG, because the light in churches can be between tungsten and florescent.

Grab the priest before hand and ask him whats allowed or not ie flash, running around, standing in a certain place etc etc etc.

Some of them can be right swines when they want to be!!!!!!
