Issue with Linksys wireless 3G Router

    Hi Folks,

I have the above router WRT54G3G and have what seems like an incredibly simple problem but cannot figure out what's wrong.

I'm using the router to get internet access from O2 3g broadband and this works fine. I can access the router wirelessly from my laptop no problem and get decent speeds, however my issue is when I connect via ethernet, I can't get internet access. I can't figure out what's wrong, it connects to the router and unidentified network, but won't let me browse. I tried to connect to router using 192.168.1.1 as I do with wireless, but no joy. I checked settings on router and all seems ok, it transmits on B and G and used DHCP. Laptop is setup to automatically obtain IP address.

Please help, i need to get this working to get access throughout house, it's driving me daft.

    Thks

I'm not sure I understand the problem. If you need access throughout the house then use wireless which you say works fine.
If the router is set up to assign addresses by DHCP then you should be using a different IP number for the ethernet port. I'm not familier with your router but most assign an IP address to a specific MAC. The MAC code is different on the wireless and ethernet ports of the PC. You need to check again that the TCP/IP and DNS is set to automatic on BOTH the LAN (ethernet) and wireless ports. If this is done correctly then the router will give the ethernet port the next available number (e.g 192.168.1.2).
If you enter the IP number manualy into the TCP/IP box then you also need to enter the DNS server address manualy.Without this you won't be able to surf the net even tho you can connect to the router.

I have the router in the attic and only have wireless signal upstairs, I have it wired downstairs though to two network points, this is what I wanted to get working. I tried on a different laptop last night and worked first time, so it's obviously some setting on my laptop. I need to compare the two and figure out what's wrong, both are vista. From what I can see my settings are correct as per your comments - time for some troubleshooting...

Have you checked in device managear to make sure the ethernet card is installed properly or tried the ethernet part of your laptop somewhere else?
