I really need some inspiration. I got some nice photos in Kerry at the weekend and if the weather does not start cooperating with me pronto I will need some alternative holiday plans fairly fast or I will go start raving mad. I was supposed to be kitesurfing this week but there is no wind. I may traipse over to Sligo next weekend if things do not improve here but the galling, galling thing about this is that I bought a 580 Speedlite II at the weekend and absent wind cannot even start to explore whether what I wanted from it is possible or not. I spent most of today exploring various photography sites looking for useful info on doing sports flash photography with a 580. If I never see another American forum on NFL, Nascar and basketball, I'll still have seen too many.

I need something from left field. By that I mean, not sports, not flowers, not the streets of Dublin and especially not the lighthouse in Howth.

I'm guessing that the vast majority of people here have an interesting spider's web of contacts via both Flickr and pix.ie with a whole pile of different styles/subjects. I'd be interested to see what people might come up with that does not involve me having to get on an aeroplane to Brittany (for example). I need to look at what other people are doing. I've done tours of Dublin; I've done a lot of the touristy stuff....I just would like to see other creative stuff from other photographers with something in common with say, like the trick I did with the wine glass and the heart shaped ice cubes. I know I posted something of that ilk myself.

If you have something like that in your contacts, can you post a link? I feel like I'm stuck - partially - in a rut and I cannot see my way out and I don't want to Photoshop my way out either. I have good camera equipment. I just feel lost. I've done buildings, flowers, kitesurfers, windsurfers, sailing boats. I liked messing around with my jewellery. I'm prepared to look at acquiring props (like white satin material to rest more jewellery on). I do not and cannot afford to buy more lenses so my macro options are limited.

I'm open to suggestions here. I've one possible project lined up if I don't get any wind tomorrow or Thursday. But after that...

Take yourself off to the nearest wind farm with your DSLR, tripod and 580 and either a long cable for the flash or a wireless trigger, and reproduce this. Youtube video showing setup included in the description. Now there's a challenge for you that would keep you entertained!

Galway coast is lovely and the scenery changes so much without travelling too far.

    Hi

With a flash, what about strobist or zack arias?

I read The Online Photographer quite a bit and find some of the Random Excellence links inspirational.

Two (of many) earlier in the year that struck me are

http://theonlinephotographer.typepad.com/the_online_photographer/2008/04/random-excellen.html - but maybe the subject matter is too close to what you do.

http://theonlinephotographer.typepad.com/the_online_photographer/2008/01/random-excellen.html If you follow the link to the Kaszuba site, there is a gallery - the long exposure category really makes me want to get one a ND400 filter

This probably says more about me than helping you of course....

Nearest one appears to be Dunmore in County Louth.

I am thinking about going to Lahinch or Ennischrone for some surfing. Just one day trip there and back. With few stops.
You are more than welcomed in my car, if you are willing to wake up really early in the morning (in case of Lahinch trip).

What's the wave forecast? The wind one is all over the shop. The forecasts tell me that I can look forward to 0-5 knots forthe next three days. The windmeter in Dun Laoighaire Harbour says it's 13.5 knots at the moment. 13.5 is usable, 5 is not.

TBH, if the wave forecasts for Cork were okay I think I'd just go home and go surfing in Inchydoney. There are more windfarms down there too which puts me more in the frame for Mark's little thought above.

I am using Magic Sea Weed page to get the forecast. And it is pretty accurate.
