Am I entitled to anything?

So here's the set-up: We're not Irish (I'm English, partner's Italian). We've been living here nearly two years. My partner works full time, and he earns 30,000euro a year (pre-tax), salary-based. We pay 800euro a month on rent, and we have a two-year-old. So add cost of food, bills, the baby, travel (we don't drive), and general living--we're not left with much.

I need to go back to work, and as I have no qualifications at all, and I didn't even go to high school (it's a very long story), the only work I'm going to get is in hospitality/catering/cleaning/possibly retail, etc. That's fine for me, I'm not picky. But obviously I'm not going to be paid a lot--so I wouldn't be able to afford standard childminder fees. Everything I earn will go to childminder and travelling, so it kind of makes working pointless. I also want to take an evening class to try and build myself some future prospects.

Would I be entitled to anything? Some kind of childcare allowance, perhaps? Thought I'd get some opinions/advice here to figure out if it was worth trying to apply for anything.

    Thanks! :)

PS. Also -- should I have been claiming some sort of unemployment benefit all this time? I have no idea. :/
