I have a ferroli gas boiler but cannot figure how to work. No manual and see no model number. I want to set to heat water for bath only. Sorry I can't give more details

    http://www.ferroli.co.uk/products/Domestic.php

Go here and look at all the models till you find it. Alternatively look harder at the boiler there must be a serial somewhere.

When you say you wan it to heat bath only - what do you mean. There are generally only two options to choose from heat water that goes to sinks/baths and heat radiators. So by process of deduction you should be able to figure it out.

You will probably get more replies in the Home Appliances forum so I'll move the thread to there.

Is it a combi boiler, which means you have no hot water cylinder and the boiler produces your hot water which goes straight to the tap or is it a system boiler which means your boiler produces hot water to heat a cylinder of stored water, two different systems that have different fault characteristics,

Not sure I have a cylindr in hot press? The boiler has the letters ABS- FR on the inside of the pull down door which givesa access to controls. Thanks

OK, if you have a combi boiler it will have two temperature control knobs on the front of the boiler, make sure the control knob for hot water(normally has a tap picture to identify) is at it's highest setting, if you then turn on the hot tap and the boiler fails to fire then the boiler is defective and requires a service engineer to call.

If it's a system boiler then your programmer(timer) needs to be on for hot water, your boiler thermostat needs to be turned up, your cylinder thermostat needs to be at 60c, you should then get hot water if you don't then i would call a engineer, if you feel able, there should be a small square box in your hot press on the pipework to the cylinder (if you have one) this will have a small arm on it and you can push this to the end of it's travel where you can slot it in to a groove, this will manually open your hot water control valve and should help to give you hot water, good luck, Gary.

At left i have a dial with ON/OFF/RESET
In the centre there is a temp dial at 50 degrees
Above that are 6 little lights above which are symbols inc a tap symbol. Some symbols light when boiler on the tap symbol does not
To the right is the timer dial and right of that is a dial which says bar. How do I upload a pic? I put a pic in my album

You can try PMing me if it's easier, i wouldn't know about attaching pics, I'm better with boilers than computers.

You have a system boiler, the way it should work is you turn down your room thermostat to turn off flow to radiators( this is because you don't seem to be able to split the time controls on the boiler) then make sure you're cylinder on the cylinder is set to 60C, then if you go to the boiler and turn the timer on you should get hot water you may have to turn the boiler thermostat to above 50 maybe 65-70c if you find you don't get hot water you need to check the valve which allows the hot water to flow to the cylinder which should be on the cylinder pipework it's like a little box and it will have a little lever on it which can be pushed a long it's length of travel and it then hooks in on a little grove on the way back which will manually open the valve letting heat to the cylinder, if you find your heating works OK and you have no hot water then it's external to the boiler as the boiler fires the same for heating as it does hot water, also try your reset if the boiler doesn't fire and maybe look at bringing the water pressure up to 1.5 bar as it's healthier for the boiler. If in doubt get it serviced and ask the engineer to explain how the boiler works and how the system fills with water, I'll shut up now, good luck, Gary.

Cheers, many thanks for that your're a star. One more thing how long should I have to wait for hot bath water?

If you have a cylinder thermostat fitted and it's set at 60c the higher you have the boiler thermostat the quicker it will heat the cylinder (maybe 35-50 minutes), if you don't have a cylinder thermostat or you have manually opened the hot water valve then the boiler thermostat will control how hot your hot water gets, so you have to be careful, as the boiler thermostat on the boiler set high will give you very, very hot water. You may find that after all this you still cannot get hot water, then bite the bullet get some one in and they should take you through everything, Gary.

Looked in hot press I do not have anything on the cylinder pipework as you write like a little box and it will have a little lever on it which can be pushed a long it's length of travel and it then hooks in on a little grove on the way back which will manually open the valve letting heat to the cylinder.

I have 2 red circular things on the pipes in hotpress that could be turned. I think they are for turning off the water from the attic tank? I do not have a cylinder thermostat

then bite the bullet get some one in and they should take you through everything, Gary.
I am trying to contact the plumber

It is good working practice to fit the controls i have mentioned, it is possible that you have some or none of them, thats when getting someone in is a good idea to explain the set up and characteristics of your heating system. You mentioned that you turned off your rads, did you have hot water before that? If your boiler is firing for heating but not for hot water it would suggest a wiring/control fault. If you take a picture of your hot press i will let you know if you have a valve in view, Gary.

Had someone in , he told me to turn off water to rads from the valve at boiler while waiting for a bath and i should get hot water in an hour or hour and half. Before that I got lukewarm water in one hour.I don't have a valve in my hotpress. Thanks for all help, I really appreciate it;)

    Hi,

Plumber has told me that the pumps have gone (press the green button to turn on the gas and it starts leaking) and that there are no parts available in ireland as the model is over 10 years old.
What should I replace it with or is there a way to fix it / replace the parts ?

    thanks

    Hi there
I know this is an old thread but i'm having the same problem and it sounds like the same model of Ferroli boiler. In my hotpress there are 2 red handles pointing upwards and on them there is a double ended arrow, pointing left says on and the one pointing right says off. Does anyone know if they have anything to do with it. Any help would be great as i nearly flooded the house earlier!!
