    right :

want to move off my 5500

    needs :

    Nokia

    sturdy phone.

No camera wanted or fancy screen but if it has one it has one , must have FM radio with normal headphones usable , don't care about MP3 player

long battery life <- a week or so would be fine, longer would be better.

    reasonably modern

am I mad to want this ?

any ideas of what phone ?

    TIA
    T

why Nokia? You really limit yourself if you do that imho. Most people say nokia because they think that is all they can use, but 10 minutes with a Sony ericsson or a Samsung and you will pick it up easily.

The best phone I ever had was a SE W810i, I currently have a Nokia E65 which is ok, but slow and has no radio and i also have a samsung U600 which has a decent radio but I can't get the MP3 player to work very well.

I'd suggest a Nokia E51 myself. I have one and it seems to have most if not all of your requirements, and isn't as slow as other phones in the E/N series

I'd imagine you'd be doing well to find a phone that'll last a week with the requirements you've listed. I haven't seen a battery last a week since the days of the 6310i :)
