We have a 3G Broadband modem in our home and it works perfectly on one of our PC's unfortunately it does not work at all on the other PC, which the printer is set up to. Is there anything I can do or get, to get it to work. The PC it won't work on is an IQON.

In what sense does it not work? Computer doesn't pick it up when plugged in? Not recognised correctly as a modem? Installs correctly but won't load web pages?

You need to be as specific as you can when asking a computer related question.

The reason for this may be because it of whatever windows you are using. I encountered a similar problem. If you are using service pack 2 for xp then it simple wont install. Aquick ring to the technicians and they'll guide you through the process...

    hope that helps..

The Computer does not recognise it as a modem, it installed no problem but when I go to conect to Web the computer tells me there is no modem installed.

When you say "go to connect to the web", what do you mean? I've only experience with the o2 modems specifically, but I know that with them, you have to open the software the modem installs and type in your pin and hit connect before you open the browser. Is this the same? And if so, is the software showing a connection?

You have to open the Modem software and press connect before opening browser, but on the IQON it won't open the Modem software, we have re-installed it on numerous of occasions and each time it tells us that it is installed correctly but it just won't open. Do you know if there is a device that I can get that if the Modem being installed and connected on the other PC would allow me to connect to the Web on mine.

Well windows has built in ICS (Internet Connection Sharing), so you could just leave the modem on one pc and as long as the pc's are networked you can connect on the other too. I'm no expert on ICS though, but there's loads of stuff with some googling.

Computers are not networked, how would i go about doing this. one computer is using Windows Vista the other is on Windows XP would this be a problem

Depends on the type of setup you have at home. If you have a wireless router and both pcs have wireless cards then it's just a matter of configuring them.

Alternatively, simply running a LAN (Local Area Network) cable from one to the other will do the job.

It's probably easier to try and sort out the modem issue though, stick-dan's suggestion could be a possibilty, you should try calling tech support.

I've had this problem with a 3G modem and an O2 modem on my girlfriends laptop. It see's the device and installs the software but doesn't recognise it as a modem. So when you try to connect through the software it says there's no modem installed.

Try uninstalling the modem and rebooting the machine, hit f8 a couple of times when the machine is starting up. When you're listed with some different boot options, select safe mode. This is your pc running with the bare minimum of drivers/software loaded.

When its started up, plug in the modem and let it do its thing. It should install the software and also recongise it as a modem aswell. When its all done, restart the pc and let it start up normally. It should now see the modem and work ok when you try and connect.

This is how i got around the problem on my girlfriends machine. Hopefully it will help you out also.

I think there's some software conflicts/usb problems with these modems and older machines. A guy came into our office one day having problems with active sync and the equipment he got off us and when i saw the 3G software, i knew straight away that it was causing the problem.
