The provisional start-lists were released today for the Morton memorial meeting in Santry on Friday night. I'm pleasantly suprised by the standard of the fields in each event; I wasn't sure how many international athletes would be present, given the proximity to the Olympics and the Crystal Palace Grand Prix taking place just over the water in London.

The highlight for me is the Women's hammer throw, with Sydney Olympic Champion (@ the age of 17!) Skolimowska of Poland, current World Champion Betty Heidler, our own World Uni Games silver medallist, O' Keefe, World Junior silver medallist, Safrankova, plus two other top Germans, British no.1 Zoe Derham (who's going to the Olmpics too) and the U.S record holder.

The distance races have great depth in them too, with some of the finallists at the recent Olympic Trials in Eugene going in the Blue Riband event, the Morton Mile.

The Sprints have some top names too: Jamaican 400m Chamion, Rosemary Whyte, who ran 50.05 at their national championships and is tipped to be a medallist in Beijing, two top Bahamian 400m men, Michael Mathieu and Andrae Williams, along with Cork City Sports 400m champion Greg Nixon, highlight the sprint fields.

Enough of my crap, here are the startlists:

Yeah, just saw it on A.I website!
Hopefully it's just a precautionary thing.

Noooooooooo! :( Was so looking forward to seeing her in action.

Oh well, a fighting fit Eileen for Beijing is the most important thing.

But did we see who she's been replaced with?! Ivana Brkljacic! :) This really is a world class field. Excitement isn't the word!

I know I was hoping to see her in action myself.

Won by Heidler from the Czech and the Pole 72.43 to 72.83 to 71 something. Eileen's stadium record intact.

    Hi all,

Had a great evening out in Santry; was my first time out there, and haver to say the stadium looks a lot better in reality than what it does on t.v.

The Hammer was a great competition alltogether. As commonsense said, Heidler won...looked very impressive looking. I'm pretty sure, however, that it was the Croat Brkalic in second with the Pole in third.

Nixon won the men's 400m, while the Jamaican won teh Women's in 51.5?, IIRC. I'll post a few pictures and stuff when I get home on Sunday.

One boo-boo made on the night was when God Save the Queen was played instead of the Amhran na Bhian by mistake!

Great win for McGettigan in London tonight also!

Excellent hammer competition despite Eileen's absence. GB's Derham (or Dernham as the announcer was insisting) was badly shown up for speed in this company and won't figure much in Beijing.

How was it that a practice throw landed in lane 3 in the back straight and yet the cage gate was not adjusted? Maybe it can't be adjusted further (which is very poor) but at least they held further throws until the track was clear.

A very well-promoted and enjoyable meet but the attendance, although respectable, will probably disappoint the organisers.

You're absolutely right, Rineanna. She was the Croat - got my 'C's mixed up!

ah come on that was hilarious, secondly he only go through 5 seconds of it before it was turned off.

I know the DJ and I won't embarass him by naming and shaming him as he is a contributor to these boards !!!!!!
