    hey guys
i know this thread was started already
im just wondering if people are still interested in having a mac workshop/discussion/show n' tell session group once a month or something like that.

it would be a great opportunity for mac users of all levels to help each other out.

How about having this group in Dublin.
please reply to this thread with your thought on the idea.
Dont worry about a venue, I have that sorted.

so im going to start off the count, here goes,

I was asked by ClubMac to deliver a talk soon. I'd certainly like to meet up with the boards group too, all depends on when - gotta be a bit of planning if am going to make it up from Kerry.

    ya all levels welcome.
say if we get ten numbers to show or more would be great
is it possible to book a room in a college in dublin if you're a postgrad from another college?
if this is possible, it would be a very nice, cost free venue.
    talk soon,
    Ed

Thats 6 that responded on here.

I'm not entirely sure if a room in the uni would be up for the task ?

I'll want a coffee ... so ideally a cafe / hotel or something with refreshments ?

A room in the Uni would be more suited to guest speakers and so on ...

( I'm having visions of us sitting around saying things like ... my name is James .. and I'm a Mac user :D )

Aye, sounds fun. Any more details?

shur if eeryone starts giving suggestions

just to make it clear all levels of mac users are welcome

    my suggestions for the meet

are a questions and answers session

a tutorial session for e.g. how to create good well put together home video

and a guest speaker who research an apple product and talks about a new apple product.

I've only moved across to the mac what now... 2 ? 3 months ago ...

Could give a tutorial of some sorts on setting up a webserver locally ? or something like that (pretty basic stuff to me but I'm always surprised how complicated people find it)

I can also help out with a location in Trinity if people want it.
Most coffee shops won't have enough plugs.

yeh i was thinking we could get a lecture room, but would it suit? where were you thinking? maybe the gmb would suit?

Alas we could never use it.

We could book any of the arts block rooms that are free (book as a society- easy enough to do) or room 50 in the atrium.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,073 ✭✭✭eurotrotter

that sounds like a great idea

by the way, i have a flicker issue on my macbook, has anyone heard of something like this, or experienced on their own machines?
the problem is, my macbook is now a few months out of warranty!

    thanks lads

    why not?

Neither of the 3 societies who control the booking of the rooms are favourable to sharing outside of term time.

I've started to do a lot of development on the mac. So am currently running a lot of the Java Enterprise stack - eclipse - maven - jboss - jpa - ejb3 - seam - icefaces etc.

Most of this is of course cross platform but just to show it can be done. No insurmountable issues so far so it could be of use to some making a dev switch from a windows environment.

I think the best way might be to identify people's area of expertise and what they are in to. That way we can get people who are interested to do a little workshop on a topic etc etc

Aside from all-round general usage my main areas are development with an emphasis on audio, audio in general from setup to editing, fair bit of graphics related PS, Ai, ID etc etc.

I can also supply a large room for this.

Should be handy enough to get a projector set up too and wireless internet.

I think I have a burco boiler lying about somewhere too for coffee.... only catch is that it's located out in Coolock so not terribly central. But it has easy access by bus and car.

My areas of expertise I guess would be graphic design and video editing. I tend to do all my audio editing in Adobe Audition.

interested but it depends on what's being done. My area of expertese lies in photoshoppage I suppose. In addition a 'programme' of stuff or a statement of aims would be nice.... that is unless its going to just be a mac-using-boardies-meetup-'n-geek-with-macs type day?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,480 ✭✭✭projectmayhem

sounds interesting alright. as already said, it would entirely depend on what's being discussed.

I'm definitely interested in this, especialy if the focus isn't always strictly on OSX, but if diffrent skills are shared in different workshops, for example, graphic design, digital audio, new applications, etc etc..

    Great initiative guys

In the unlikely event of anyone being interested I'll happily throw in a quick course on developing website wireframes in OS X using Omni Graffle. Would be of interest to web designers/UI/etc mainly , but that said Omnigraffle is a powerful diagramming tool for a *lot* of things.

Please mail me if there is interest, cause I don't check here often enough.

I think this is at the stage where a date / venue / requirements need to be laid out ?

    midweek or weekend ?

Dublin City Center or out a bit ?

Projector .. Teaching Environment .. coffee house for an social get together ?
