Java media player

I was thinking of doing a project over the summer before heading back to college. Long story short I came up with the idea of a media player i.e playing audio and video files. I had a look at the JMF (Java Media Framework) but it seems outdated and a bit rubbish. My question is, has anyone else done something like this…

My question is, has anyone else done something like this before? Or could someone point me in the right direction as to how to go about it?

Try sourceforge.net for some open source stuff. Got a java media player off that a while ago, was more interested in the graphical equalizers that it had, can remember the exact name though...
