    Bickerstaff rules Round 1

The Garmin/Sqeez backed Irish Touring Car Series got off to a great start with 24 drivers making the trip to Ballymoney in Northern Ireland on Saturday for the opening leg of the 3 round RCCAOI sanctioned championship and the first man to climb on to the top of the podium was the multi talented Alan Bickerstaff at the controls of his Associated TC5 (The following day Alan went on to win Round 2 of the 1:8 Buggy Nationals in Galway).

While overcast weather and a damp track greeted the drivers on their arrival this did not dampen the enthusiasm of the competitors or the host club the Ulster Model Car Club and by Round 2 of the sun was out and the slick tyres were on. Running a Round by Round qualifying format, it was Bickerstaff that TQ'd with a perfect score as he topped the time sheets for all three rounds of heats with the Xray of Graham Kenny securing 2nd spot on the grid for the double leg finals.

Bickerstaff never really looked threaten in the finals as he headed home Kenny and his fast charging Associated team-mate Jonathan Dunn, who started from 8th on the grid, in both legs. Claiming the overall victory, Bickerstaff now also sits at the top of the Irish Touring Car Series points table.

As was expected Round 1 of the ITCS ran perfectly thanks to the efforts of Marty Kenny and his team from the UMCC and already competitors are preparing themselves for Round 2 which will take place at the fast flowing St. Annes track in Raheny, Dublin, on September 21st. A special word of thanks to our sponsors Garmin and Sqeez for providing a goodie bag to each competitor to help them through the busy race day.
