Not a lot to go on here I'm afraid. American film I saw on Tv maybe 8 years ago. I think there's a woman escaping from a mental asylum and she may have a split personality that shows up in mirrors, for example the rear view mirror of the car she escapes in.

I feel like the end scene is her sitting in a field boiling her own leg in a pot.

    Anyone?

The key scene for me is her sitting in the driving seat of a car at night after coming out of the asylum and seeing what I think was her split personality in the rear view mirror sitting in the back seat. Really freaky.

I'd guess that the timescale we're talking is late 70's early 80's.

She may not have been boiling her leg at the end maybe just stirring a pot on a fire in a field while looking really insane.

Don't think there were any stars in it.

The boiling her own leg thing may well be my own embellishment but the rest is definitely real.

    Could it be Sisters? (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070698/)

Feck, it might be. What I've read about the ending doesn't tally but maybe. Definitely want to check this out regardless so I'll find out. Thanks for that man.

Doesn't really add up to what you've described being Sisters but it's still definitely worth a look. Always been a fan of Margot Kidder and seeing some of the darker films she's made away from the Superman stuff is great. She's particularly good here. Picked this up on Criterion DVD a good while back but it's certainly got that disturbing 1970's feel going on. Some blatant rip off shots from Hitchcock in it too but all well done and not too distracting.

As kind of expected sisters wasn't it but a fantastically freaky film none the less. Did I miss something about the ending though. Seemed really abrupt with just Charles durning up the pole watching the couch?
