Hi , read through the old threads on the slate / tile etc dillemas. Im having it at the moment. How are the clay tiles, tegral thrutone slates, plastic slates, brazilian slates holding up after a few years???? Im looking for a long lasting, easy maintainance product....slate appearance but would consider a flat black tile. Would crack up if it started going white in a few years like some of the rooves Ive noticed!!! Its a dormer so quite a lot of visible roof. Any good or bad experiences with any of these products over time???? Cant afford to go for expensive natural slate but that would be the finish I would like best. However I dont want a lovely black roof thats quaranteed to fade to white after 5 or 10 years.

It can be hard to decide.
Natural slate is heavier than man made, sizes can be smaller too so there more timber battens!
Slates are harder to replace if one is broken or blown off.

Conc tiles don't tend to fade if the colour goes right through the conc. They are a lot heavier that slate, so bigger roof timbers and increase timber costs.
Conc tiles are easy to repair if one gets loose or broken. Its also easier to retro fit a roof light.

Theres a lot to think about but its really a personal decision. If its a big dominant roof, it might be worth going for man made slate.:)
