Wedges - to get longer ones or stick with standard?

I use 1/2 inch longer and 2 degs upright irons. I've always used standard wedges.

I've always had a 54 degree SW and 60 degree LW combination and have had everything from Clevelend, Titleist, Callaway and Taylor Made over the years because if you practice a good bit the grooves do wear down so I renew frequently enough.

Aaaaanyway, does anyone have an educated opinion on whether getting 1/2 inch longer and 2 degs upright on the wedges would be a good or bad thing?

Here's what I'm thinking so far...

Pro - there is a big yardage gap between by PW and SW, 1/2 an inch on the SW would shorten the gap

Con - but I don't mind too much cos I hit a pretty good 3/4 PW

Con - extra length could mess up the weighting/balance of the club even tho I'd be getting them custom orderd from the factory - it's a concern

Con - more length means less control?

Pro - having a different lie than my irons probably isn't a good idea

Pro - I find it hard to hit a hard full SW - possibly because it's a short stick and I'm tall?

Even as a 3 h'cap I was never that great from 60-110 yards despite working quite a lot on it. Might be worth a try...

I had a look at the Taylor Made Z Grooves today - they look awesome I have to say. Although the Vokeys spin the most by all reports.

    Any help welcome!

    What height are you ?
I'm 6 ft 2 ,5 handicapper, and use standard length clubs, never been an issue for me.
My natural shot is a slight draw so I dont think my clubs being more upright would suit me.
That said my wedge play isnt the best.
Bear in mind that shaft lengths by different manufacturers vary so you may not need an extra 1/2 inch.

Have you tried a Gap wedge? 50 - 52 degrees. I got one at the start of the summer, it's quite good from 85-100 yards - and you'd get more stop on the ball than if you hit a 3/4 PW. Since I got mine, I've gone from 8 handicap, to 6.

Im not sure what 1/2 an inch and 2 degrees upright would do for wedges. Have you tried asking your local pro?

MA, I'm 6ft 4 and have been fitted for my irons. Tried going back to standard in the past - much better with longer clubs.

Niall, I'm not a fan of gap wedges - as I said, I don't have a problem hitting short pitching wedges.

What I'm looking for by custom fitting my wedges is more consistencey in my equipment set-up and wondering will I be more comfortable with longer shafts and actually get more accuracy that way...

But there are cons too as I've said

    It's a dilly of a pickle!
