Need a lend of a cab....

Lads, can anyone lend me a cab? I rang Matamp about my amp and they told me that if anything was gone it would be the pre amp tubes. I had a spare so I tested them all by replacing with the spare and nothing. Before I packaged the amp back up to send back to them I thought I should probably check the cab so I plugged it into the Mesa and nothing! It seems the cab is fooked!

Anywho I just want a lend of a cab for a hour or two to make sure. The lead on the Mesa speaker is too short to plug into the Matamp head.

I work in Blanchardstown and live in Blessington so anyone along the route via Tallaght or the likes I'd collect and drop back the next day or I could even bring the am to your house to check. Cheers.

Thanks Boycey. I managed to get the Mesa speaker connected to the Matamp and it's working fine :D

I can't understand how a cab can stop working though??? There are no loose wires or anything!

Next question is where do you get a Cab fixed?

Well, that's strange. Is it a Matamp cab? Or what kind is it?

Anyway, if the speaker is blown/disconnected, then there's a possiblity that the amp has been running for a while without a load (while you were troubleshooting, trying to get it to work etc.). Which is never a good thing for the OT.

Give it a good thorough playtest with the Mesa speaker, leave it turned on for a couple of hours, crank it up, all that sort of stuff. Just to make sure everything is 100%.

As for the broken cab, well, a cab is just a speaker(s) connected to a jack dish, pretty simple stuff. So either the speaker is broken (happens) or the wiring/switch is gone.
-Or the cable is f*cked? (speaker cable, NOT instrument cable :pac:)

That is weird. Is it the mongo-tone one in the sticky? I remember reading very good things about them.
Unfortunately I can barely change a plug so Im of no use, Im sure AlanStrainor or PaoloM or one of those techie minded lads should be able to give you a few pointers.

PS Mesa and Matamp, you lucky boy!!

as the ex owner of a matamp cab i can say the construction and build is solid
i'd be surprised if it was at fault

Its a mongotone cab, a 2 x 10. I reckon its the input jack on the cab. Its one of those locking ones and I did just pull the jack out without releasing it the other day.

The amp seems fine. I didn't leave it on for more than a few seconds at a time when i was testing it.

Thanks for all the help lads.

Do you still need a cab ?
    I am 5 minutes from Blessington - let me know tom(at)jekyl-online.com .

    Cheers

I probably should have read this thread before I responded to the other one. :pac:

Thanks NeMiSiS but I have confirmed that the amp is fine. Just need to fix the cab now.

Eoin, I was hoping you would be about when this first happened. Thank you for the detailed response. You have the make up of the amp bang on.

No worries... sorry for missing the boat. :o I was engineering out in Elektra all weekend.

Since they suggested preamp valve as the first likely cause, I'm guessing there actually is no HT fuse in the amp (prob just a mains fuse) so my guess was a little off anyway. ;)
