Camera repair help

I was hoping that someone on this forum could please help me.
My Samsung Digimax D73 has recently broken. I am fairly sure the problem is with the lens. The lens will not go back in when I turn off the camera. Instead there is this ticking sound, as if some lever is out of place, and a beeping sound before the camera automatically turns itself off. I have the camera about 18 months so the guarantee (i bought it in dixons) is over. Could anyone give me advise on DIY fixing or somewhere where I can get it replaced. I have been to a couple of camera shops and they have told me that they do not do repairs and would have to send it off to England which would cost me about €125 and might not even work. The camera only cost me €160 so I do not fancy paying almost the entire cost of a new camera. Dixons while being polite are not willing to do anything for me. I am fairly annoyed about the whole thing as the lens got stuck and the camera stopped working out of the blue for no apparant reason.
Thanks for reading and any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

If it still works, the fire away with using it, but I wouldn't have a clue on any DIY fixes for it!

If it only cost you 160, and repairs cost 125, you might be better off saving up for a new camera in 6 months time.

Well if its anything to go by iv repaired a camcorder with a zoom though it was internal but it zoomed in and out luckily i didnt need to fix the zoom but they are well secured anyway and have all those arkward screw heads you need to buy new screwdrivers for!The only digicam i zoom apart was fixed and still the zoom and the sensor where securely boxed in!I think you're best of using it or buying a new one and selling that for spares/repairs on ebay to fund a new one

These days consumer products like that are not economic to repair. Even the warranty returns are just replaced. Some of the suppliers like Argos have auctions where they sell returned goods by the pallet, some of the stuff has nothing wrong with, expect the person did not know how to use it. It's more cost effective for them to flog it off rather than even checking it out.

So .... if it's not working at all give it a go yourself, nothing to lose. You will probably end up getting a new camera either way. Sorry.

I had this with my wifes point and click camera a while back, turns out it was a gear in the lense had popped out of place, I found a page online detailing how to fix it by "forcing" it back in when I turned off the camera and it tried to rotate back in but it has had the same problem a few times since.

I think once it pops once it will keep happening and I would recommend doing a google search for your specific camera because different makes\models need to be turned in different directions.

sorry that this is not entirely constructive but here's your problem
    i bought it in dixons

second it IS better just to buy a new one as you will probably get the equivalent model for about E125 or a better one for the E180 you paid for it 18 months ago

There is a repair place at the end of Georges street just onto dame street.
The guys name is Paul, no idea of the name but you could ask in the camera exchange in georges street they know the name of the company...

I had to deal with Hahnel Industries recently for a problem with a Sigma Lens. Found them really good to deal with & extremely helpful.
