    Hey there,

Not sure if this should be here or in main computer thread, anyways.

I have an AMD chip here with me and one of the pins on it is bent right down into it, another is slightly bent.

I was just wondering what would be the best way to straighten these up, or do you think the chip is pretty much ruined now?

Do all pins have to be connected into the cpu slot on the mother board to work?

    Many thanks,
    Coz.

Pritty much I would think, although if they could be bent back to normal without breaking off it may work, I doubt it would be easy,

I feel your pain. I was putting together a machine before and dropped the cpu onto the table. Bent loads of pins. Slowly, using a needle nose pillars, I straightened them. But dont know if its completely flattened.

you can get a little tool for straightening pins on boards+cpus. Maplins/PC world etc.
CPUs ar a lot easier to do than boards..at long as you can bend it back up a bit without it breaking, then you're ok.

Yup, if you get them back into place it should be ok (have has this a few times). You want as little back and foward as possible, get it close and see if it fits the socket (will straighten it that last little bit itself).

    Good luck.

Get it straight as you can and use a credit card to get it 100%
    It's seen/heard off worse.

I've had a cpu with 3 broken off pints work perfectly before. Also bent back pins once and kept working.

I used my swiss army knife on an intel CPU not so long ago. Worked a treat.

I used a mild heat (couple of inches over a candle or lighter) and bend the pin back with a flathead screwdriver. Possibly either really smart or really dumb, oh well whatever works!! :D

No need for the heat IMO. The pins are very flexible as is.
