Dealing with Mactivate

The Superdrive in my Mac Pro has gone faulty. It will write a CD but makes noises and gives errors when asked to write a DVD. I'm sure its a hardware issue. (the other one works). The machine is under warranty. Do I have to bring the whole thing over to Mactivate or can I whip out the superdrive and bring that. I'm not going to leave a few hundred gigs of my data with strangers, besides which I need it all the time

Fado, fado,(Years ago, when I was in Apple) it WAS the normal practice for the repair company to wipe the drive and reinstall before going for a hardware fix. I would seriously doubt that they will just swap out a Superdrive unit for you without the unit there. You could always ring them?

You could back-up your hard drive, wipe it and then give it over?

I dealt with Alan in Mactivate on a contentious issue, he seemed to be a very genuine guy. The other guy Damien or Daniel or something, was aggressive I thought he hadn't got any customer service manners.

I would have no problem going there again, but I wouldn't deal with the other guy again
