Any other J5 fans out there?

I've all their albums and I think they're great. I like heavy hip hop too but it is nice to hear some rappers that don't focus on all that stuff.

Not a fan of thier most recent album...but thier early stuff is brilliant.
They lost Cut Chemist on the last album and I think that had an impact on some of the creativity side.

Also, i thought the Charlie 2na stuff is a bit weak, was expecting a lot more.

So sad to hear J5 were finished, they were all that I loved about hip hop,and I agree, felt that their last album really didn't sound like their stuff. Was so glad I got to see them in vicar st before they broke up.

Have heard some of chali2na guest stuff, will always have that distintive sound and clever lyrics, haven't heard his solo stuff as such.

Yeah dilated peoples are great, also maybe the roots and *early*(1996 behind the front), and I mean early Black Eyed Peas stuff, before they turned into cnuts with that bird in their band.

Anymore similar recommendations?I seem to have put hip hop at the back of my musical shelf at the mo,Lupe is good to listen to,but slightly too commercial for the likes of J5 and Dilated peoples sound

Blackalicious, Ugly Duckling and Lyrics Born should be right up your alley if you like J5.

Definite +1 for Ugly Duckling. I'd suggest getting some Tribe Called Quest also. Not the same sound as J5, but it's really great, smart classic Hip Hop.

You'd probably like Pharcyde too, to add to the growing list of recommendations :pac:

Everytime summer comes around i get back into J5 in a big way, what a group, sad to see them go, but as someone else said, there last album wasn't the greatest so probably best that instead of going downhill with every album they just left it.
