So I'm renting my spare room out. Every now and then, my flatmate leaves his door wide open to air his room. Problem is the room can stink and now my hall has a bad humm in it. I think its a build up of dirty washing or sheets and non hoovering. How do I tell him to sort it out without being rude? I think he only showers about twice a week!! Dont know how his girlfriend puts up with it. But he always looks well polished...anyway, stinky room what to do?!?

Drop him a couple of comlimentary cans of air freshener. If he doesn't use them or take the hint, I'd say something then.

I'd say just be straight up and say it to him..

Had that problem in a house-share once. We had to say it straight out a few times to the guy - listen, we want to keep the house in a good standard, and your room is dirty and smells, will you clean it and keep it clean? He was never that offended - it was worse for us having to say it to him! :D

Thing is - I think, if you are a dirty begger, you aren't going to change. We had to kick the guy out in the end. I'd suggest you think about the same - it is your house after all. You don't want to end up having to replace the mattress etc just cause of your stinky housemate.

    just time it right....

try and walk past the room while he is in it and in a jokey way say "man open the windows in there will ya"
