What items should I definitely not untick in the start up menu?

Just your antivirus / firewall software really. You can always add back stuff if you find you're missing a certain bell or whistle.

I always post this when i see posts like this, go to www.sysinfo.org and you can check everything you want...

In general you only need to keep stuff like anti-virus and spyware checkers..
