Poor Battery Performance on N95 8GB

After a full charge, it lasted only four hours this morning, this was with at most 2 hours of mp3 playback. Very little else running at the same time. This is the second time this has happened - seems to be particularly bad on mp3 playback.

I'm thinking maybe faulty battery so I'm getting Nokia to run a test for me tomorrow. If they report it as being faulty, I can get a replacement in Carphone Warehouse.

    Anyone else found this?

I would get about 15 hours out of it with loads of pictures, plenty of 3g/wifi connectivity and some calls, in other words pretty heavy use. 4 hours sounds like a dodgy battery to me.

Picked up a 3rd party 2000mAh battery on ebay (the normal one is 1200mAh) which is great, but use at your own risk!

I was away last week and it went dead on me as well withour really being used- it is annoying how it turn itself on in your pocket quite easily

Bad battery i think. I listened to over 4 hours of music and some surfing and the it lasted over 12 hours before i started to get a power warning.

same thing happened to me and my dads new n95 8gb from carphone warehouse
The battery only lasted me a bit short than 4 hours with mp3s and wi-fi and less than 1 hour when i used the gps.

Really crap battery life especially compared to my old razr v3 which could stay on for 5 days with some light usage and 3 days heavy usage.

Is it less than 28 days old. If it is yes you'll get a new one. If it's over 28 days they'll send it to MPRC for tests before they'll do anything for you..

i find a lot of the programs are still active in the background. I usually keep them to minimum turning off from holding the application key. I find this gives me three days of light use. The bluethooth and esp the wifi really drain it quickly though. hope this helps, if not new battery

I got a brand new N95 on Saturday, recharged it all Sunday night and after a days light use (no mp3s, about 5 mins video, and was plugged to the USB cable some 6 hours today, snoozing a reminder or two now and then) - and the low battery warning came on around eight this evening - that's just 12 hours of very light use. Coming from a humble k750i which goes on and on for almost a week with similar use, I am really annoyed with this! Thinking of sending this back thb..!

I think I failed to do my research - it doesn't hold charge long, doesn't charge from the USB, and no memory cards! Really bad form from Nokia, considering the phone is worth more than my laptop! Any thoughts?

Well fortunately, it's only a couple of weeks old so I should have no trouble returning it.

I'm not 100% happy with the call quality either although it sounds fine when on loudspeaker so I assume it's an issue with the earpiece.

you have got to drain the battery a few times completely to condition and make sure you dont run loads of apps in the background, I last charged mine saturday night to sunday morning, i still have 4 bars of battery as I type

Sounds a bit iffy. Hold down the menubuttongt5.jpg button for a second or two to see if you have any apps running.

Also be sure to check out http://N95users.com, there is loads of stuff on it especially for battery problems.

Checking this thread mightn't be a bad start.

Dunno if it's relevant to the 8GB version but I was reading up on n95users about how some guy found his battery life improving once he took the back cover off his phone. Turned out that a button was stuck and caused a drain. I thought this was odd as you'd expect that a stuck button would do something but then I tired it myself. Lo and behold, the nokia energy monitor is showing consumption dropping from 0.41 down to 0.09 when idle. The remaining standby hours has now jumped from 9 to 48!

Did this increase the thickness of the phone?
Looking on eBay and some batterys are saying they will increase thickness of the phone and they provide you with a different back cover.

Just letting you know that this problem has righted itself. In fact the day after I posted the above, I was able to play mp3s for 16 hours non-stop.

I've had a 95 8gb since march and i still get 2-3 days from a full charge with moderate calls, no mp3, no sat nav and bluetooth on all day. i switch it off at night and only charge it when i get a power warning. you should always check the background apps and switch off whats not needed. fair enough, if you're a heavy caller, use the mp3 or satnav or bluetooth the charge is gonna plummet, but be fair the phone is doing a lot of things for you!

i find the posts "crap battery life compared to my old phone etc" quite funny. its like saying that "my new aston martin has crap fuel consumption compared to my old mini"

the other posts sound like a genuine fault though and you should return the phone asap.

    What button?!

In my case it was the camera button. However now my menu button has stopped working and now the profiler has gone up to 0.32

Hmmm now looking at that buttons along that side, the play button is level with the cover while the buttons above and below are sticking out a bit!

This happened to me a few times and I put it down to the GPS draining battery. For some reason which I can't remember now I concluded that the GPS hadn't been turned off when I closed Garmin Mobile, can't remember why I concluded this though...
