Would a company advertise on my car?

    Hey folks,

I was just thinking last night... What would it take to interest a company in paying you to plaster your car with advertising?

    Sounds kind of wierd...

I mean for example, you see all of those FM104 cars and Red Bull cars going around. Obviously those people are employed by those respective employers. But surely if any person drove around with a big can of red bull on the back of their car, it would have the same effect. Or if a car was covered in FM104 advertising, similarly.

So do companies routinely pay people for this, without employing them?

I'm asking because I'm trying to think of ways, when I'm travelling in a couple of years, to get a bit of extra money along the way. If I buy a kind of distinctive looking car/van, then would any businesses be interested, do you suppose, in covering it with their advertising?

    Cheers folks...

ps. take that with a pinch of salt, it was just a half-baked idea I thought of last night :p

Not a half-baked idea at all. If you could identify the right company and show them how the advertising would work, they might very well be interested. A brother of mine spent several years as a DJ. A record shop paid to have their name on his van. Ended up he got good rates as various shops bid to have their name on the van.

There is already a company in Dublin which does this - it matches up potential drivers with potential companies looking to advertise. I don't think it ever got much business but the guy who set it up sold it on I think...

I've been looking and can't for the life of me find the name of it though, sorry!

    Cheers lads

Yeah I was thinking there'd be some merit in the idea. Companies often give their employees cars plastered with advertising. And people like tilers or roofers usually have the phone number, etc., on their vans.

So obviously someone out there thinks it is a valuable marketing idea!

I'll give it some more thought, cheers

ask the next taxi you see thats plastered in some sponsorship - nearly sure its the same company who do it with Joe Public but for less money on the presumption not on road as much.

Also as far as I know its very little loot

Make sure you get your own site stickered on too. I think I've seen these guys already in the local SuperValu :D You could get further advertising revenue from a site too.
