Career Counselling

    Hi all,

Do any of you know any career counselling services in Ireland (preferably Dublin)? I am working in a job I trained for in college for about 3 years now and I would like a change. The problem is I don't know what to change to. I mean, I know my interests (I think) but need advice on what's out there.

I'm not even sure if such a service exists but I thought I'd try and find out.

    Thanks

I could do that I suppose.. I prefer a face to face chat with someone. My college is hours away..

There is at least one crowd in Dublin who do it. I have no knowledge of what they are like to deal with (I was looking into it for my wife a while ago). I'll see if I can dig out the link, but if you search this forum you should find it.

Edit: I think this is it: http://www.careermatters.ie

I can't remember where I got their name though.

i would go outside college counsellors- i found they were useless in my college anyway & a lot of people say the same.

I alwas found it funny when someone says a career guidance councslor is bad.

By using one your basically saying

" i can't think for myself, think for me"

and then get upset with the result

I dis-agree with what you are saying, bills was saying he/she felt the career guidance counselors in college was not very good, and I feel you saying the person can't/won't think for themselves is a little small minded to be honest. You don't know the first thing about the poster's situation when they were meeting with the counselor.

You have to understand just because someone goes to a counselor doesn't mean they can't think for themselves, they are maybe looking for information on a topic they have an interest in but perhaps not an in-depth knowledge on.

I have also found my counselor in college to be quite poor, she was pretty lazy and actually out of touch with the reality of certain careers out there, and this opinion was shared by many of my peers.

And a counselor doesn't know every single thing there's to know either.

they can listen to you throw some ideas out there and give YOU some resources so YOU can get the information YOU need.

After that it's up to you.

I think it's called accountability something not many people are interested in.
