holiday suggestions for August

I need holiday ideas! I have the first two weeks in August off work & nothing booked – leaving it to the last minute I know!

There are two of us travelling in our late 20’s. We’re looking for sun but nothing too sweltering – difficult in August I know. The holiday can be one or two weeks or somewhere in between. The problem is we don’t have a clue where to go.

Budget could stretch to 1,000 per person for two weeks. Any suggestions on a location? We have been to Alvor in the Algarve twice & loved it. Spent a fortnight in Puerto del Carmen & whilst enjoyed the holiday it would be my favourite place to go. We’re looking for somewhere with a bit of night life but not too clubby. We would also try a cruise but any I have looked at have been over 1k for 7 days.

    Cheers,Tom

Saw lots for Sunny Beach on sunway.ie

Never seen much about it - when were you there?

Tsilivi in Zakynthos is really lovely. Great restaurants, nice bars, nice safe sandy beach. Not a lagerlout type of resort. Nice boat trips to be done during the day. When we were there, it was towards the end of August. It was hot, but very bearable. There was a nice sea-breeze too. There seems to be good deals at the moment, for Zakynthos. Once your apartment/hotel has air-con, you'll be grand.

Cala d'Or in Majorca is also nice.

There are also a few deals for Santorini online (www.holidaysonline.ie) - in the Perrisa area. If you don't mind pebbley beach, it sounds like such a beautiful island, with so much to see. I saw deals online for the start of August for €450 p.p which is very good value.

    Tom,
Was in Santorini in late May (vegerra apart-hotel in perissa) beautiful place, really chilled, lots of nice restaurants and a fabulous island with loads to see and do. Would definitely recommend it.
No doubt it will be hot during 1st two weeks in august but there is always a breeze there to keep you somebit cool. Vegera hotel is excellent and brilliantly located, also perissa bay hotel looks good and santa maria something in peravolos (next place down the beach) is fab (friends there this week and the feedback is good). Great deals at the website given by ruby and also on xl.com who are running direct flights from cork and dublin.

Hi, do you mind me asking if you got to visit the resort of Kamari, when you were in Perissa? We are going there in 5 weeks. Any restaurant recommendations for Perissa? As we'll only be a couple of miles away, we hope to get in there some evening, too see what it's like. Thanks a mill

If you like Alvor you will probably really enjoy Lagos too.
I have been to both and both retain the old world charm.

In Lagos I would recommend Marina Club and Marina Park( Panorama)
If your budget is 1000 pp you can probably stretch to some of the topflight accomodations they are very swanky.

Prices are comparable for food and drink in Lagos and the beach is also excellent and unspoilt.

If you want to go to the Marina Club in Lagos, you can book the flights and hotel separately and it will come to less than 1000 per person. I'm heading there in about a month and was there last year too.

    Ruby,
Went to Kamari one day and it looks really nice, a bit more commercial than perissa but not overly so.
There is a ferry boat every hour or so from the beach in kamari to the little peir in perissa (its literally only around the headland)
As you come up from the pier in perissa there is a little fish restaurant which is about the third place you meet (one of the small few with seating at both sides of street - and before the little roundabout) - fish there is really fab, have the grouper or the red mullet, there were three of us and we had a banquet of fish c/w octopus etc and wine and starters etc and the whole lot was about 80 yoyos. There is a really nice curry place in perissa (if you want a change) go to grandmas for souvlaki (pitta kebab) and go to Yazz bar for chillin

Make sure to visit Fira and Oia while you are there too

    ENJOY
