My Little Batman Begins Story

After just flicking on to Sky One there and seen that they were showing it I remembered a funny little story, nothing major but something that made me smile. So the story goes....

Playing a game of Poker in one of Dublin’s finest casino’s which I have done on many an occasion there was this Asian gentleman sitting two my left nothing out of the ordinary, game progressed lots of money flying about over the course of about 9 hours. The table was fairly lively lots of banter and chat going on. So we finish up the night time to go home, so I get chatting to said gentleman on the way out after we cashed in our chips “that was a good game tonight” “yes I enjoyed it very much I won a little so I am happy” was his reply. So I introduce myself “my name is Danny by the way” “pleasure to meet you Danny, my name is Ding” I said to him that I had never seen him in before he replies “yeah I only drop in on my way home from work the occasional time” so as were walking down the road about to part ways he says “were do u live would you like a lift” I say “nah I’m ok I’m going to go and grab some breakfast I’m starving” “were do you go to get breakfast at this time?” I say “there is a Londis on Dame Street that is open 24 hours I just go there to get something.” “Jump in and we go down and grab a bite”, not wanting to be rude I agreed, so we get chatting a little bit on the way down tells me a bit about himself, he owns a few restaurants in Navan was one of the main things.

So we go and grab a bite in the shop and standing at the counter about to pay and he says “it’s on me” I say thanks very much I appreciated it “next time it’s on me” I say. So were standing outside having a chat and I say “you’re a star thanks for buying breakfast” he says “yeah I know I’m a star I’ve been in a few movies” laughing about I say “really would I of seen you in anything?” “You see Batman Begins, yeah, I had a small part in that” I was taken aback kind of in disbelief “what really?” “Yes honest” so he goes on to fill me in about his part in the movie. It’s the scene were Bruce Wayne, Henri Ducard, Ra's al Ghul are saying that he must execute the thief, the Asian man Ding is the thief.

So we say out goodbyes “hope to see you in the casino again sometime, take it easy.”

So I go home breakfast roll in hand it’s about 6:30 in the morning I’m still kind of in disbelief of his story. I go and get my Batman Begins DVD and put it on, trying to find the exact part he was telling me about. Holy s**t low and behold there he is in the movie couldn’t believe it! I’m shaking my head smiling saying to myself, that’s just insane!

To this day I still haven’t seen him back in the casino to ask him a bunch of question’s on it; I think the main one is how a man from Ireland who owns restaurant’s in Navan ends up in Batman Begins?

As you can see I’m not much of a writer but I just thought I would share my little story with the people off Boards, hope it didn’t bore you to much.

He's not the only paddy who got a part in BB. See below:

The punter on the left in the photo holding the walkie talkie also had a part.

A lot of Batman Begins was filmed in London and so a few Irish and English actors ended up in smaller roles. I think Barry from Fair City actor might be in it too in a tiny role.

There were a load of Irish guys in BB, one in particular was when Batman is at the docks being hunted by all these guys in between the containers. The guy who shouts out: "WHERE ARE YOU!?!" before Batman frightens the shìt out of him is Irish.

One of the guys from Après Match has 1 line as a cop in the cop station.

Bald dude who is Dr. Cranes henchmen in the warehouse where they captured Katie Holmes (They should've killed her, if you ask me...........the miserable bitch!)

    Christian Bale is Welsh
Micheal Caine & Gary Oldman is English
    Rutger Hauer is Dutch
Morgan Freeman still looks as old as he did 93 years ago

Talk about a mish-mash of different nationalities.

(Oh, and The Joker is Austrailian)

Nice story. It's one of the things I really like about poker, no matter how rich, famous, poor, or uknown you are, everyone is still 'equal' at the poker table

Yeah that is so true the amount of people that you meet at the poker table is crazy another person off the top of my head i played with is one of the creators of Father Ted, Graham Linehan. Two table tournament and he is sitting a few seats down from me i say to one of the dealers "who is your woman sitting at the other table she is beautiful" not knowing who your man was he pipes up "yeah thats my wife" with a smile on his face. Only later did i find out he was behind Father Ted.
