Just realised you want to change your ip address. Sorry thought you wanted to see your ip address. Man, I'm way to hungover today.

You could go through a proxy to get around a forum ban ;)

i ran across some web program that gives you a US IP a couple months ago but i neglected to post it because it required a subscription fee, and there was a download cap on it >_> cant remember the name

without doing it for 48 hours ???

I don't think you can actually change it. But you can use a proxy that will mask it. Basically you're putting your connection through another computer.
Your computer > another computer > website.

    Just Google "free proxy list"

24hrs might do it. 48hrs would be preferable.

Generally, rebooting your DSL router will get you a new IP.
Works 80% of the time for me. Do it from the routers web gui

dont have a reuter as it comes from the wall "connection" and also tried unplugging it for 20 hours and it didnt work:confused:

Goto Start -> Run, type cmd

in the console enter the following

    Ipconfig /release
    Ipconfig /flushdns
    Ipconfig /renew

should give you a brand spanking new IP!! :D
Then you can make the new IP static if needs be...

when i type the first ipconfig/release do i press enter to drop down or ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,512 ✭✭✭stevire

Yeah, after each line of command press Enter and let it run.. Once finished it'll bring you back to C:\ or whereever you intially entered the command... Then run the second one etc etc..

    Ipconfig /release [ENTER]
    Ipconfig /flushdns [ENTER]
    Ipconfig /renew [ENTER]

Should also be a space between ipconfig and the "/" no space afterwards for the command!

tried it and its clearing and all that but its still the same ip???

Correct me if I'm wrong but will this not just renew the LAN IP rather than the WAN IP?

I thought that was what the OP wanted?? Are we looking for a renewal of the routers IP or the PC? The above will renew the PC i.e LAN as you said...

Edit: I see he hasn't got a router... an IP address is leased to you by your ISP. Once the lease is expired a new IP address is issued to you. Long story short, its up to the ISP to change your WAN IP.

You'll have a router somewhere. When the cable comes out of the wall what does it go into before it connects into your pc? That would be your router*

Ip addresses expire** after a certain amount of time which can usually be seen on your router. There is no way to force it to expire without the ISP's help that i am aware of. I'd suggest contacting your service provider and asking how long the lease of the ip lasts or begging them to change it for you (not very likely).

*This is assuming a home network with DSL over a phone line and a non internal pc router.
**Usually. Business customers usually are assigned an ip address just for them to use. This is called a static ip while ones that change periodically are called Dynamic ip's

Why would a user need to change a LAN IP address? if anything most people want a static LAN IP - either by dhcp mac filtering or by setting up a static one normally.

Can you think of any reason for changing a LAN IP address??

    IP conflicts.

    IP conflicts.
You wont get ip conficts assuming they are dished out via dhcp. I doubt the op has statics set up on the network if he is asking how to change an ip.

OP - with some ISP's they usually will dish you out the same IP even via DHCP - it all forms part of their monitoring of their kit on your site ( not sure about Smart )

Why would you want to change it as an aside... most of us "dynamic" guys would love a static ip... and there may be another way around what you want to do

Plan B would be to post the query on Smart's tech. forum as their admins are quite active over there ( or is that heresy ? )
