So delighted he is such an irish Sporting legend,

this makes me so proud not since Stephen Roche, incidentally the two of them are two real down to earth genuine dublin lads. :D

Was do you think Padraig will be ranked now???

I reckon he'll be up to a career high of 3, because doesn't he get 1 whole ranking point for a major win.

The rankings are really tight at the moment from Padraig right up till 3rd place.

Amazing shot on 17. I'm guesing though I wasn't the only one shouting at the tv before it telling him to put the wood away and lay up and take a par.

Shame i didn't back him on Thursday because of the Injury :mad::mad:

    Yeah, he's 3rd now.

    1. Woods
    2. Mickelson
    3. Harrington

3rd best golfer in the world, I think hes actually 2nd cos Phil aint cuttin it at the minute! What an achievement, to win one Open, well I never thought I'd see the day an Irishman did it, but to retain it is legendary status....in terms of individual sportsmen in Ireland hes got to be the best ever, full stop! And unlike our soccer teams at euro 88 and italy 90 etc, hes actually WON silverware! Well done Paddy :D

I was the same, couldn't believe he did it.

Thats two injured major winners in a row now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,169 ✭✭✭rednik

I know he was injured but there's going to be a lot of humble pie in the press tomorrow as not one gave him a chance. Just shows you the type of man he is. Last year was brilliant, but this year puts him up another level, to think he has now won the same as Greg Norman did in his career.

good news for Europe too. Saves Faldo having to use a draft pick on harrington now he'll qualify automatically. gives him more options

Great finish, he just stamped his name in history with that 5-wood on 17.

Plus, great acceptance speech, where he was very complimentary to everyone involved, unlike most American's speeches "this means a lot, this is really cool, thanks a lot".

Met him 10-11 years ago at the Leinster Branch GUI AGM, where he spoke to anyone who approached him. At the time he wasn't a prolific winner or as well known, but was a real nice lad, and good to see he hasn't changed.

I'm not a golf fan but isn't it great to have a genuine world class professional sportsman that's Irish. As opposed to the likes of Bernard Dunne that get rammed down the throat of the public thanks to their marketing machine.

Fantastic win for him. Seemed so relaxed and confident all week once play got under way. Reckon he silenced a few critics yesterday with the way he played that last 9 holes. Deserves his new world number 3 ranking. Role on Turnberry!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,677 ✭✭✭staker

Those last nine holes were brilliant. Delighted the way he got aggressive on those par 5's when it mattered!! Those early pars settled him nicely too. A real coming of age. Surely a major across the pond beckons.....
