Does anyone know the best place to get a Gibson Les Paul refretted?
How much would cost and would it be as good as new?
It's a '93 Standard and was my first expensive guitar, so i am reluctant to sell it, as it's been with me for a while.

I bought genuine Gibson fret wire recently as the replacement.
I live in the Dundalk area too, do Dublin might be an option.
I might even put some Tonepros tailpiece and bridge and new tuning heads, if i can get them at a good price over from USA.

I know a luthier in newry has done some work for me in the past and always has a room full vintage gear that he,s working on for other people so maybe worth a shout, I have a number if you wanna ring him let me know, I don't think he'd be happy if I posted his num for all he,s pretty busy, fixed an sg for me about 3 years ago and was a pretty good job.

Derrick Nelson is a common recommendation. He's in Marlay Park, Rathfarnam.

Usually you'll get at least a couple of fret-levels before you go needing to do a complete re-fret. It'll be a lot cheaper, as re-fretting something like a Standard has a good bit of work in it.

Unless you have some specific reason why you want new frets, in which case work away.

Frets have already been filed down years ago.

There is only so much wire in left......on it's last legs i think.

How much would a full refret cost??

Best just ring the luthier and get a quote, it'll vary from luthier to luthier and im sure Derrick will be the most expensive. There's more work involved in a LP Std because the binding needs to be removed and then put back on. Don't count on it being cheap anyway.
