    Hi Folks,

Just getting into the exciting world of poker and wanted to clear a few things up. In Ireland, is it legal to play online? And secondly, is it legal to have the server reside in Ireland?

    Regards!

I dont think that Ireland has a commission to licence gaming servers so I don't think that there are any here

    yep, absolutely legal.

if you are just at this stage of looking into online poker, you might want to just stick with some of the easier online options that are linked to the major bookmakers (essentially all major Irish bookmakers). They usually allow you to deposit and (sometimes) withdraw from their shops.

[edit based on what wisesmurf said - online gambling is definitely legal, not sure about the server issue but can't see why it would be something you would even think about]

I think Full Tilt are out in Cherrywood. A friend of mine helps them with server issues.

following on from this, although it may need a new topic, i've always wondered what the legal precudure was for new pokerrooms in ireland?..

like is it ok to open a new casino under normal business laws as a pokerroom?

or what extra hassle is needed to provide the less fortunate degenerates of our land from popping into a legitamite pokerrom that's not located beneath the arse of our lawmakers?

I think these so called 'pokerrooms' are in fact 'private members clubs'. that's why you have to become a member to get access. I'm not 100% on this, there are some dudes here that'll have a much better idea than me.
