Can I turn off tags?

I was just wondering if there is a way to turn off seeing the tags that are put on threads? The tags don't bother me, but when a thread builds up a few lines of tags they take up a fair bit of space

I've never found out how to do it....

it would be great if we could either bin them or turn them off on threads we use frequently
