I just completed my first triathlon in Athlone last saturday. I liked the experience so was thinking of doing another at the end of august. My problem is that I used the 16 week sprint program off beginner triathlete as I'm not a member of a club. Now I'm not sure what training I should do in between now and then. If anyone could help I would be grateful.

Which plan did you follow for athlone?
Is the august race the same distance?
Tell us what you are currently doing?

Sorry to ask so many questions before giving any advice but the more info we have the better we can advise you. Some background into your sporting history and fitness is also useful.

I did the 16 week sprint plan. Found it good. At the start I could barely swim two lengths of the pool without been tired and by the end I was swimming forty plus lengts without stopping. The race in August is the same. Its a sprint. This week I havnt trained much. I've cycled once and I played a soccer match. My background in sport is mainly soccer. I've been playing since I was thirteen. I am now thirty-one. I've also played gaa. My current fitness is fairly good. I completed the athlone race in 1 hr 36 mins. I was 17 mins for the swim, 45 mins for the cycle and not sure about the run as my second transition wasnt in it so think it was included in the run time which was 28 mins. Dont think the run was that time on its own. Thats about it i think. Also next sunday I'm on holidays so I might not be able to do much cycling. Running or swimming wont be a problem.

I'm not familiar with the 16 week sprint programme but you have two things working for you
    1. you're not bad at any one of the disciplines so you don't need intensive training in any
    2. you're reasonably fit so don't need to particularly improve that
so, I would suggest looking at the August race date and work the plan you followed last time backwards from that date, you've had some down time this week and if the race is the end of august, maybe have another down week at the start of august.

Thats what I was thinking but wasnt sure. Thanks very much. I'm hoping that the more I do the more I'll improve. Do you think this is reasonable? Or have you any tips on improving times? Not really sure how my times relate to someone doing their first tri.
