    Hi SnowMonkey.

I too lack motivation and, although I feel like I've found the right career, I do feel my life lacks direction sometimes.

The only advice I can think of is to keep searching for what you want in life. Hope this helps in some small way.

This mightn't mean much, but believe me you don't need Dyslexia to lack motivation.

Motivation is only one aspect of success. First identify the various career possibilities that interest you and (not taking yourself as a case study necessarily) ask yourself what would be necessary to become active in this/these areas. For example, once you identify the career what advice would you give to someone looking to get into that area? Break this advice down into a series of small steps that would help 'a person to achieve their goal'...

If you look at the process as a project rather than as an overwhelming problem you may be able to identify various 'small steps' that will add up to an overall solution.

Long story short take yourself out of the equation and you may be able to quantify the necessary steps. Once you make out a list of these steps focus on each of them systematically until you reach an end product.

Don't let dyslexia hold you back.

A friend of mine is dyslexic (very dyslexic) yet she's now a very senior marketing manager earning over 100k per year.

As you can imagine, it must have been difficult for someone in marketing rising through the ranks having dyslexia. She did it though. The key to her success is her firey ambition.

I understand your "where next?" problem. I had that for most of my 20's. I'm 30 now.

The important thing to remember is most people go through their entire life not really knowing what they want to do, or what they "should" be doing, so don't put too much pressure on yourself.

College is definitely a good idea.

I work in IT. What I like about IT is there are tons of career options: telephone support, desktop support, system administration, network administration, development, testing, automation, web development, business analyst, product manager, etc.

Having IT skills really opens a lot of doors, the money is good, and it's a fairly relaxed industry.

If you're a people person you could go for sales. The school of sales (on Dame Street in Dublin) offer good sales courses. You can make a lot of money in sales.

You have a lot of time, and it's ok to try and fail.

    Best of luck.

    dublindude.

I dont let my dyslexia hold me back it slows me down, i think exceptionally quickly yet when it comes to getting it on peaper it goes out the window and requires a lot of concintration which can be tireing.

For instance the job im in i could improove sales hugely with a couple of ideas I have, but the guy doing it Doe'snt know the buisness quite like i do and thats because ive over 10 years in the buisness i know the people I know how to attract them to the company... yet there not being attracted... I've seen this first hand.. Costemers saying I never new about this place till today and im talking about genral advertising.. Im only new to the company and I a dont know who to confide in and (b) dont want to tread on toe and I think completely out of the box.. :)... I've met the owner a few times and hes a buisness man and i think he would be upfront and honst with my ideas one ive given him but not yet had the time to do the lagistics of it....

Id be happy to go to night school and work as well i beleave that working in the job is 6 times better then just going to collage. ....

COH thats what im trying to do. I no my good qualities I just need to figure how to aply them to the career that would be right for me or collage course.
I guess i do have ambition but Ive got to be doing something that keeps me interesting and forever changing, if that make's sence or i will get board of it....

I know motivation is something that lack of motivationis soemthing most people have but I also know is sufferd bye dyslexic people to due to the fact
well i think its moe confidance in ones abilitys and a poetiol emploe

Think about what you enjoy, what parts of the news you watch, what you like talking about....that will give you an insight into what excites you in life.

And don't beat yourself up about not knowing or not being motivated, just do that which you enjoy doing!

    Best of luck!

    Have a look at daycourses.com and nightcourses.com

They give you information about third level courses and PLC courses. They also have a forum where you can post up questions about different careers.

As Ian Curtis has said, think about what you enjoy - aspects of work you enjoy and are good at, hobbies and general interests.

Even look up the CAO and the course titles and see if any jump out at you.

think about it this way, you might have an idea what you want to do and it may conflict with where you're at right now. I'm halfway through college, but I'd like to go spend time in the armed services as well for a little while - if not to make a career of it at least to see what its like. But thats no reason I cant consider both - im young yet and I have years and years before i would miss up the opportunity to do that. So now I can focus on getting a degree under my belt, to put away for later.

Maybe you sound like you would have a bright future in Hotel Accomodation? People, exotic locations, catering, etcetera. An accquaintance of mine took it up after LC and ended up in Sweden for a year doing the course and now I think he's in Toronto. So you can go places with that, and explore some of the things you enjoy.
