Just back from a week in Killarney.

It's the most beautiful course looking out but that facilities are absolutely woeful there. 20 quid per person as well which is quite steep, not to mind the 2.50 cans of coke etc.

Anyway, it's got me thinking. What's your favourtie course?

    I've been to
    Cork,
    Killarney,
    Gowran,
    Tralee,
    Tramore,
    Galway,
    Chester,
    Kempton,
    Haydock.

I must say my favourite was Haydock. A superb course, massive in size, pity that I couldn't back a winner though. Second would be the aforementioned Killarney.
The worst is my most local; Cork/Mallow, for every reason imaginable.

So what's ye're favourite courses and how many have you been to?

I like Limerick. The grandstand is on a hill above the track so you can always see the action. Think it's the only course in Ireland like that but I stand to be corrected. Hate Leopardstwon but only because I couldn't pick my nose there, facilities are fine. Looking forward to going there for the Derby next year

    My two favourites are
    Leopardstown---High Quality flat and jumps
    Curragh---Top flat course.
I prefer the flat but also love top class Hurdlers and especially chasers. The sight of a natural fence jumper is fantastic and for that reason Clonmel will always have fond memories for me as I witnessed Edredon Bleu give an exhibition of jumping there a few years ago in the Clonmel Oil Chase when he beat Beef or Salmon.I finally forgave him for beating Direct Route in the Champion Chase(Although even looking at the photo finish now it still looks like Direct Route won)

    +1.

Fantastic facilities that are well laid out and a great place to watch a race from. Very easy to get in and out of as well.

Which is why I can't understand why it doesn't get crowds...

Punchestown is definitely my favouorite race course, hands down!

The course is fantastic - a real national hunt course which really tests a horse. The 'chase fences are a good test too, and really nicely presented. Hurdle course is good too, but what really adds to it is the fact that it's the only racecourse in Ireland which has a banks course (brings back memories of Risk of Thunder's great achievements!).

The improvements that have been made both on and off the track in recent years have really added to the venue. There's now plenty of room for people to move about, even during the crowded festival, but without feeling too empty at a smaller meeting. I love to watch the 'chase races from the small 'old' grandstand, though the newer one is nice on the not-so-dry days! Plenty of room to see the horses in the pre-saddling enclosure too, which I like.

Agree Limerick is customer-friendly.I guess the problem is the standard of racing does not compare to the standard of the facilities except on Munster National day and possibly Stephen's Day.Both of these days are well attended, in fact you could probably say Stephen's Day it's too packed.Maybe the course management also don't do enough public promoting of the racing.Racing is a bit insular and the people who run it don't really do enough to encourage people to come. They don't even highlight the fact that there are buses running from Colbert Station to the course and back. They could also try and work out something with Bus Eireann to have a bus returning to the station an hour or more after racing so people know they don't have to rush away after the last race.
