I unplugged my external hard drive on Thursday to bring it over to a friend. When I tried to connect it to my friends computer it wouldn't even turn on. No power whatsoever. I'll get a new power cable tomorrow but my question is can the data on it be recovered if there is something wrong with it? How would I go about that? It was working fine until I unplugged it.

One would assume the harddrive is just a regular desktop or maybe laptop harddrive. You could remove the drive and check the interface to it. (IDE or SATA)

Would be possible to get a empty caddy for it.

Your friend did pay his ESB, right?

Yup he did :D I've since brought it home and tried it here and it still won't work.

It's an external hard drive hooked up to the desktop.

How would I go about doing this:

I'm not techie at all which really doesn't help matters :D

I assume it's handy enough to open the caddy...I'll assume the screws are just regualr philps screws.

The drive will be either IDE or SATA

    IDE:

    SATA:

Then check your own PC or whatever pc your gonna plug it into.
Or if you decide to buy another caddy for it you'll know what type to go for.

You could save yourself al this bother and google the exact model number of the Trekster and see if that tells ye.

Thanks! I've tried googling the model trekstor datastation maxi x.u but I can't find it. I'll buy a new power supply tomorrow and if that doesn't work then i'll unscrew it and find out what kind it is.

How do I check the computer?

The cable to the arse of the harddrive will be either flat ribbon type cables (IDE) or real thin cables (SATA)

That one is IDE so yours is likey too.
See how you get on with another power adapter. Ensure the voltage is the same

OK, so I still haven't solved this problem. I've been on holidays so haven't done too much on it.

I think it's the power supply that's the problem. I've read of others having the same problem. I've googled and can't seem to find anything besides one side that only delivers to Germany.

Anyone know where I can get a CS power supply.
    Model: CS-12/1500-05/1500-A
    Input: 100-240V - AC 1.5 A max. 50/60Hz
