Anyone going to this in Mitchelstown on the August bank holiday weekend?

IMO a stronger line up than castlepalooza and all for free. I think it's a decent line up- cathy davey, gemma hayes, fight like apes, the flaws, ham sandwich etc etc. If they had gotten jape it would have been fantastic.

Yeah, I'm heading down with a few friends. It looks like a great weekend. I've never been before but from what I can gather - all gigs are outdoor on a stage in the middle of the town with beer kiosks set up around the place. At night then there is a makeshift festival nightclub where everyone goes, all the bands hang out there too I believe!

I'll be there, but apparently there's no camping, so where do people tend to stay?

Wouldn't be confident on the "beer kiosks" front, but it's in the square in the town which is surrounded by pubs. And yes, the club night's are a great laugh.

The thing is that while it's free it is a not for profit festival, so they need donations, especially as they lost their major sponsor this year. they collect at the festival.

As for accomodation people tend to go for the local hotel/b and b's etc.

Are all those bands not playing Castle Palozza?

The Flaws, Fight Like Apes and Dirty Epics are the only crossover I can see, though I didn't trawl the Castlepalooza list for too long.

Cathey Davey, Gemma Hayes and Ham Sandwich aren't doing Castle Palooza IIRC

When you say there's plenty of spot for tent pitching, what kind of spots? We talking about a risky one in the town square green patch or something? I've never been so I've no idea what the town is like at all.

Fearing getting a Sunday mornin' hurl to the head might not be the most restful of ideas :p
This is all a bit up in the air really... does this festival tend to be an event for locals or what's the craic? I've never been before and my camper van dreams have been crushed so I'm a bit lost.

Quite a good festival. Stage run professionally, all the amenities of the town right next to you, no hassle that I could see and there was a really good buzz later on in the night.
I ended up sleeping on someones floor, but I spotted a nice area for camping next year :)
