    A tried and trusted formula?

A former body builder and Mr Universe winner from Austria has been cast as the new Terminator in the upcoming film 'Terminator Salvation'.

Canadian paper the Clinton News-Record interviewed Roland Kickinger, who confirmed that he would play the T-800 in the new blockbuster.

Kickinger said of the role: "It's Arnold's (Schwarzenegger) character in the first 'Terminator'. That's basically my role, but 20 years before, so it establishes how the Terminator [came] about."

The paper says that Kickinger emigrated from Austria to the US 13 years ago and has already starred in the spoof 'Baywatch' series 'Son of a Beach' and also played Schwarzenegger in the TV biopic 'See Arnold Run'.

'Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins' opens in cinemas on 22 May 2009.

Bizarre. Never heard of him, but his life seems to be a mirror of Arnie's.

He will crush Christian Bale with his mighty buttocks.

In Son of the Beach he basically played a caricature of Arnie (a caricature of a caricature?) so he's probably the perfect choice to replace the Gubenator.

    Man that show was awful!

I think it's because the film will go into the back story on why exactly the Terminator T-800 machines are so muscular and have an Austrian accent.

In one of the Terminator canon books, it was because the inventor was a muscular Austrian!

I assume that the film will play like the new T-800 is exactly the same as Arnie's one.

so he could be playing the inventor aswell?

Jesus I'd hope not. Scientists / inventors / robot-mechanics don't tend to look like body builders - would make much more sense to suggest that the inventor based his design on, well, a body-builder.

Kickinger seems to look the part well enough anyway. And that teaser trailer doesn't look too bad. And Christian Bale is in it.

By all accounts this should suck... but maybe... just maybe... it wont.

    Time travel.

(dates here for demonstration purposes.... more than likely they aren't accurate)

T1 was set in ~1985, in which Arnie came back from the year ~2035.
T4 is set in ~2015.... 20 years before the Arnie from T2 was sent back in time, but some 30 years *after* the events in T1 took place.

So John Conner is a grown man...... but T-800 is a brand new machine.
